I found this informative site
https://sites.google.com/site/g4zfq...hdsdr#More Pages About HDSDR, Advanced Topics

They have a section about customizing the launch shortcut so that you can have customized config profiles by adding this to the launch of the executable so all those customized settings are saved. Something like below

....hdsdr.exe -p MyProfileName

This may be more a windows question but can someone tell me where MyProfileName is located ? Is that a file that is created or Does the info go into the registry? Or does it make some kind of change to the exe file the first time it gets launched so that subsequent launches have the info saved inside hdsdr?

I want to be able save configs as occasionally my config gets messed up and it takes me a long time to get back to the way it was. so many settings in so many different menus. If there is a better way to solve the problem let me know.

hints appreciated.

Hi Don,

HDSDR saves it's config in the Windows registry.
Just open "regedit" and look below
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HDSDR
for ALL configs and ALL profiles or
* HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HDSDR\profileName
for a specific profile

From within regedit, you can export that tree using the menu.
Re-Import is by simply double-click on the exported file.

update: you can automate the export by writing the command

reg.exe EXPORT HKCU\Software\HDSDR Filename.reg
or
reg.exe EXPORT HKCU\Software\HDSDR\profileName HDSDR_ProfileName.reg

into some .bat or .cmd file. Or use this from within the command prompt cmd.exe.
Take care from where (cd) you execute this or make the filename absolute, e.g. starting with C:\...

kind regards,
LC

thanks for the great answer and your tolerance of my windoze registry ignorance.

Now my curiosity is sparked. I know this is off the thread now.

When someone develops an application like this what tool is it that makes the registry entries? Is it like a windows development toolkit that adds something to the exe? Or do these registry entries just get created by every application courtesy of windows itself. eg. if I make some simple .exe and run it will windows itself create registry entries?
