Hello how do you tap this radio to use it with dsdplus?
As I have tried my sdr dongle but my dongle doesn't pick up what this radio picks up(which is my local sheriff's dept+my local city police dept.)
I was just wondering how to do this as it says there is a cc-dump function but does that work with the radioshack programming cable?
and how would you get this radio to work with dsdplus? so I would have open only dsdplus and have the scanner feeding the audio to dsdplus to decode so I can hear both my local police dept and my local sheriff's dept(which my sdr dongle only picks up my local sheriff's dept at this time) which is why I want to use this scanner instead.
Please if anyone can help me out with this that would be great and really appreciated
Note I also probably will have to ask how to hook this scanner to the pc for dsdplus to use as I said I have the radioshack programming cable for this scanner but don't know if how to use it with the scanner to pipe audio to dsdplus.

You need to tell us what model scanner you have.

Also, are the police dept. and the sheriff's department on trunked radio systems? Or are we talking digital transmissions on conventional frequencies?

I'm here a lot
I saw from previous posts that it's a Pro-651. I wouldn't tap that one.

Rather, an old used analog scanner will do fine, add an audio output jack and use a mono audio cable to feed the unfiltered audio into your computer.

I did tap a Pro-2052 once before but sold it and picked up a Pro-2032 for $10 and now use that for DSD+

okay so use a old scanner we have plenty of them one is a old realistic one is a uniden bearcat and we have more then that so I could do that.
would these be good for me to use for dsdplus to scan my local police dept and my local sheriff's dept?
as my sdr dongle currently handles scanning my local sheriff's dept just not my local police dept.

Discriminator Output has illustrations of tap points on many radio models. Use the list of manufacturers on the left to find a particular model.

Your agencies are on UHF, which most scanners would receive.

And I agree with mciupa - don't modify a new digital scanner worth over $200 for what you want to do.

okay I am using a pro-79 I found laying around I have one side of the audio cable in the scanners headphone jack and then the other side in my computers recording audio jack(front).
the problem is dsdplus see's the sound but I guess it doesn't know what to do with it?

It won't work with audio out of the headphone jack. That's why its know as tapping the audio...you go into the discriminator circuit and tap it there. Before it goes to any of the audio amplification process!

Okay is there anyway I can use the pc/if port on the pro 651 with cc-dump to do this without modifying and creating a discriminator tap?
as I don't have the tools to solder electronics so that may not work for me.

No. CC dump only does control channel data of formats that it can internally decode.

Generally speaking, tapping a scanner means you make a physical modification to the scanner.

There are a few modern scanners which come with a discriminator output built in, but the PRO-651 isn't one of them. The PRO-668, Whistler 1080, and GRE PSR-800 do.

Where did you find the CC-Dump info? I've been all through my PRO-652 manual and I didn't see anything about CC-Dump.

okay so since scanning using a hardware radio is out of the question how would you use my single sdr-dongle(it is a Newsky TV28T v2 USB DVB-T & RTL-SDR Receiver, RTL2832U & R820T Tuner, MCX Input) <-- How would I get it to scan my local police dept as it scans my sheriff's dept fine. but cannot find or even see sneads pd(my local pd) on there.
Jackson County, Florida (FL) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference
^ that is the link to my local county's pd dept's
453.50000 WNWP909 RM Sneads PD Police Dispatch DMR Law Dispatch
^ that is what I cannot get currently
but I can get this channel currently:
460.47500 KUN436 RM JacksonSO3 Sheriff Dispatch (Marianna) DMR Law Dispatch
^ that channel I can get is on 453.47500 is where I can pick them up so I am not sure why I cannot pick up sneads pd although my pro-651 can see the 453.50000 fine and just gives the mototrbo sound because it cannot decode them when they're transmitting.
so what do I do? is it because my local pd may be on a offset channel? like my local sheriff's dept is on my sdr dongle?
Okay I have found out from what I know so far the sherrif's dept offset is +/- 7 so if you subtract 7 from 460.47500 you get where I am hearing them at 453.47500
so if I apply that same logic to 453.50000 -7 I should get 446.50000 correct? so if that is right I should get sneads pd on my sdr dongle and fmp.exe+dsdplus as well I will test it and report back whether it worked or not

I don't know the distance to each of those transmitters, but if you are using the stock antenna that came with the SDR, you might want to try an adapter to connect it to a better antenna. I'll just throw that out there. Those dongles are cheap but they aren't going to receive as well as a scanner.

I am using a old car bnc antenna from radioshack I had laying around not the stock antenna as I didn't receive nothing with the stock.
