• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all from a newbie radio user! I always feel bad asking for "free" help from forums with so much experience so I sprung for the premium membership in the hopes I can find the right help but still give back to all the great folks on here.

So on to my problem... I recently purchased a used Motorola XTS 5000 model 3 and a used XTS 5000 model 1. The Model 3 came bundled with the CPS software/cable so I can do all my own programming which is nice. After many videos, tutorials, etc. I was able to fumble my way through getting the Model 1 programed exactly how I wanted. The issue came with the model 3. For some reason, all the conventional personalities (241) and zones (15) are listed and when I go to delete any of them to start fresh, the red X is grayed out along with pluses icon, insert icon, etc. To add to the frustration, some of the parameters in the Zone Channel Assignment spreadsheet are grayed out as well and some are listed as "read only." For instance, my Flashcode says I have Channel Announcement (Q446) enabled in the model 3, but that feature is grayed out in every Zone Channel Assignment. Some channels have random things grayed out like RX SQL Type while in other channels, it is selectable. For the model 1, I was able to delete all zones and personalities and start fresh with no issues. Ultimately, my goal is to program the model 3 exactly like the model 1 that includes NOT having zones and personalities enabled that aren't needed. Below is all the relevant information on my CPS version and both radios.

I hope I have provided enough info for some help on this. If not, let me know what you need and I'll try and provide. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

PS... I did do a search on the forum before posting this but didn't find anything that dealt with my specific issue. Apologies in advance if there is a thread that deals with this and I didn't find it.

FPP imposes limitations on your codeplug structure on firmware versions higher than R09. The first 15 zones will have 16 fpp'able channels each tied to its own pre-defined personality.

Any channels you add, will need to go in personalities 241 and above but they won't be FPP'able.

You also have H38 in your codeplug which is an incompatible option with FPP above firmware R09.

Thanks for the quick reply.. So what is the best way to resolve? Or am I stuck with what I have due to the FPP limitations? Can I disable FPP then get full parameter use using CPS or is that a dealer-level type thing? I did read in previous posts that FPP is not a very popular option but in my "amateur-ish" skill level, I got the Model 3 thinking it was better.. HAHA... serves me right I guess.
