Makes you wonder where they get the legal authority to patrol these neighborhoods and boss everyone around.

Well, it's private property. Owner's rules. It's usually written in the lease that residents are required to comply with the security guards. I've heard of residents being served with eviction notices because they refused show display ID when asked. Needless to say, nearly all of the properties they contract with are places you wouldn't want to live in if you have options.

It is remarkable some of the crap and rules apartments put in their leases. You would think there should be a way to legally challenge stuff like this. Apartments shouldn't be allowed just put whatever they want in leases like that.
