Originally thought it was like my ic-v80 but obviously those radios are longer like the v82 as mentioned. I wonder what the true final technical explanation is for this.

One of the last 2 meter handhelds that could transmit 2-3 watts using a 6 cell AA battery case. Seems like the Yaseu VX-170 also had a 6 cell case, although it could have been locked to 2 meters.

Back in the day, there was a video of Osama Bin Laden holding a V82 with a long antenna at remote insurgent base in Afghanistan.

Yes I have the 6 cell case for the v80..great little radio.

Hopefully we will find out what detonated the icoms. I could understand if it was heat related but how was it actually started all at once? I am extremely unpolitical but this was actually a rather genius idea in a rather gruesome way.

It's a special order from the manufacturer to accommodate the C4.

I remember in the 1980's we could buy a small CTCSS device from Communications Specialists for our ICOM 2AT's that you couldn't tell was in the radio. YMMV. IME.
