If you have an Icom radio take it apart and look for a small white device in it. If so then it has a C4 plastic explosive in it. Then evacuate your home and call 911.

One of the last 2 meter handhelds that could transmit 2-3 watts using a 6 cell AA battery case. Seems like the Yaseu VX-170 also had a 6 cell case, although it could have been locked to 2 meters.

Yes I have the 6 cell case for the v80..great little radio.

Hopefully we will find out what detonated the icoms. I could understand if it was heat related but how was it actually started all at once? I am extremely unpolitical but this was actually a rather genius idea in a rather gruesome way.

High power signal from an aircraft encoded with the trigger information, which could dtmf, sub audible tone, etc.

It is amazing what a lil' C4 plastic explosive and a CTCSS/DCS/DTMF tones can do. IMHO.

It's a special order from the manufacturer to accommodate the C4.

I remember in the 1980's we could buy a small CTCSS device from Communications Specialists for our ICOM 2AT's that you couldn't tell was in the radio. YMMV. IME.
