HF Embassy antennas and communications mostly in the UK

I've seen some huge HF aperiodic antennas on embassies and diplomatic offices around the South Pacific islands, especially Tahiti and Noumea, in the 80's but I suspect they now use satellite and internet comms. I wonder which amateur scored them when they were taken down!!
