My shack is located in the Master Bedroom! (Closer to antenna farm feeds and good ground! :) ), but was pretty spread all over..

So, we compromised, bought a China-import Roll-top desk, and these shack Pictures are here for your enjoyment and possible adoption into YOUR hide-a-shack! :)))

DC Supplies, Wall-Warts and accessories are in the wood cabinet at right of desk.

See if you can spot the one feature that sparked a BUNCH of dialog on another forum. :))

Awesome set up.... I like the idea of hiding everything when not in use. I'm sure it helps keep dust off your toys as well, which is good!

Very nice looking.
The question begs to be answered however; how does your wife get to sleep with you at the shack?
Heck, I have my radios in an extra bedroom and she's constantly telling me to shut the door;-)

Ah yes the old caox end in the glass jar trick....it's an old hams tale that says when you're not useing the radio, you should put the coax in the glass jar (an insulator) to protect your equipment/desk from lightening strikes. Personally, if my tower takes a hit, then we're in trouble anyway so... LOL..

Nice looking desk setup. Little crowded for my tastes, but to each his own. It works well.

Nice setup. My shack is in the master bedroom too as SWMBO doesn't want antenna wires coming out of the front of the house. I have mine in an armoire so that I can hide everything when not in use.

I usually stop when she is ready to go to bed but I have headphones for when she is sleeping and I want to be on the air.

You got it, Toyota! :)

Actually, it's never a GREAT help on a direct or exceptionally close strike, but for "nearby" ones, I have seen the arc-over from center-pin to shield, and what the heck, better than leaving it connected to the Rig or scanner, right? :) - The old "What do I do with this connector now that I've unscrewed it from the Rig???" question has a solution of sorts, eh? :)

Having a nice fat Cu Ground Bus nearby (Like we have at the Space Center) would be a nice place to mount shorted SO239's and give the connectors a happy grounded home, but I opted out :)

The exploding-Jar story has been a tad over-played, I suspect, as the expanding gases will not build up enough pressure with a lid off the jar.. (Direct hits - never can be sure..) - However, I have commercial "blitz-bug" type arrestors at the mast for starters. :) We lived on a sailboat for 6 years total and have had some VERRRRY interesting lightning experiences! :)

Yes, I use nice comfortable earphones when on the hunt for DX or just scanning, when possible.. The desk looks a tad cluttered, because I hauled out the Portable Rigs and Scanners foran HRIA Insurance picture and normally they're out of sight, for the most part. :)

The XYL has been licensed since 1968 (Me since 1951), so there is a degree of tolerance built in to our relationship of 45+ years, although she's not terribly active on the bands... Bless her Heart! :)

It looks like the one on the right is doing what my atomic clock always does and sets itself to 2009 for some reason. It's a random thing with mine and I will get out of the shower in the morning and it will say it's 8:30 AM. I freak out for a second thinking I'm somehow late then I notice it says 2009. If I leave it alone it resets itself to the right time and date some time later in the day.

freaking wierd

Nope -The Year's not it - You may be seeing the Remote Temperature readout in the lower right. :)
The DATE (same as Picture date, FWIW) is a clue.. :)
As I inferred, it's pretty subtle... :)

You are in Cape Canaveral FL and there should only be only a 4 hour difference between the clock labeled ET and the one labeled UT. By 6/14 we are on Daylight Savings Time and moving our clocks ahead an hour makes our offset -4 as UT doesn't observer Daylight Savings time.

A definite Genius! :))

Yup!!

You found the not-so-obvious answer and are COMPLETELY correct!

When I moved, I forgot to update the UTC -5 to UTC-4 and in June, it was STILL a forgotten agenda item..

Just noticed it when I posted the pix here! :))

YOU get the ATTABOY AWARD!! :))))

Genius? I doubt it - I'm not that smart. :-0

Do you do any 2 meter work?

I'm usually on the St. Augustine repeater at 146.625 and we have been having lots of ducting lately and have been yearning hams from the Melbourne area. Perhaps we'll make contact on the air sometime.

No 2M rig here now, except APRS in transit .. (gofindtom.com)

We are selling our "Ham-Friendly" Condo (http://costadelsolcondo.com) - Comes with 144/440 and Long-wire "Stealth" antennas (never say antennae unless referring to organics.. :) ) and even a Cu ground plane under the "shack" rug here on the 4th floor in Cape Canaveral.

The Roll-top Desk is at our GA "High-country" cottage and I've also picked up some 1500' of elevation above here, so maybe a qso CAN happen during a frontal pass. :) Gonna try and sell the large $900 U-Shaped console HERE (cheap!) in FL in September or so, when we "list" the Condo officially ;-)

Worked many years at KSC and time to settle down in a cooler clime. (Not cooler THIS week, it appears!)
