Highland County has announced on social media that they are partnering with Bath County with shared P25 frequencies that are encrypted. They announced that transition will occur April 28, 2026.

Another one bites the dust. This stinks.

I don't currently see anything in the database about either of them using P25. I don't know if they've switched and nobody has identified the P25 frequencies in use and submitted them, or if the switch is occurring later than planned. Not that database entries would help a whole lot if they are encrypted.

Yes it is very quiet over there as there is little going on day to day. The county is the least populated in the state with only about 2300 residents.

Also showing on the FCC records for Highland County, a relatively new VDOT UHF trunked system. Looks like only a few channels per site. Will also check those this weekend. At least two different callsigns.

Came through Highland Co, on the 19th & 20th. Stopped for lunch in Monterey and let the scanner record.. Nothing heard on the freqs from the licenses I found. Did hear one Bath County EMS call on their normal frequency.
