• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is there an always-on setting for the HM782? I'm putting it into a vehicle and don't want to mess around with another cable for the ignition-sense. I just want the radio to turn on as soon as it gets power.

yes, physically wire the ignition sense to the 12V supply! AFAIK its the only way, I have a MD785 wired like that.

Yes and that requires a DB26 connector, which I have made for several vehicle in the past, but I've got a few new ones to install and was wondering if that's even needed. It does seem like (at least in my office) I can make it so that as soon as there is power provided by the power supply, the radio turns on. You can turn it on and off with the ON/OFF button, but it automatically turns on when power is applied, and of course, it turns off when power is turned off. This is pretty much what I need. I have to see if it works well like this in a vehicle also.

the HM782 we are installing in mining vehicles turn on automatically when they recieve power, and dont need an ign sense wire.

the only time we use ign sense wire on HM782 is when they are run as a base station, and the power button is disabled in the software, to work around operators turning the radios off. doesnt stop them unplugging the PSU at the wall though.

Ok yes, I found the same now. Simply turn on the ignition to provide power and the radio turns on. I wonder what's the whole point of the ignition thing is. Few years ago I went through the trouble of custom-making those DB26 connectors to connect the ignition sense pin to the ignition. Now I see it wasn't needed. But then when do you need it?
Even in the above example of using them as desktop station, you can just disable the power button and make it always-on, no?

Its been a while since i programmed it - but if i recall correctly it wouldnt power on automatically with the power button disabled in software, it needed to follow the ign sense.

operator proofing stuff can be a fun exercise.
