Making a trip in a month or two to Alamogordo and was curious if there was ever any signal activity at Holliman AFB or White sands Missile range?

Seems HAFB is 100% encrypted. Just in time for the airshow. WSMR radio system has some TGs in the clear.

Thanks for the info. I was curious I know that when they are testing at WSMR they jam cell service. Had that confirmed by the BP agent at the checkpoint.

I'm typically in Alamogordo at least a couple of times per year, but I've never taken a scanner with me, for some reason.

Since my last trip there, I procured a Uniden BC125AT. Later, I prepared a CSV file to load, including the Holloman frequencies from the New Mexico Federal page.

This process, along with the recent developments documented on this forum, have lead me to two realizations:
  1. There is exactly one Holloman frequency on the page, 381.300 MHz, that falls outside the range of the BC125AT. The scanner produces an error message if I try to enter it.
  2. It appears that I've already missed my opportunity to scan those frequencies, anyway!
In any event, NM-DTRS has two sites near Alamogordo. I'm near the A Mountain site, and unexpected Talkgroups from places like Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Los Lunas, Roswell, etc, pop up, at least temporarily, all the time.

(The BC125AT won't scan NM-DTRS, of course, but the BCD325P2 can.)

Here and there...
HAFB recently went 100% enc. Any clear transmissions on the trunking system is a result of user error. There is, however, quite a bit of activity in the Salinas Peak site on the White Sands Missile Range System. It can be a bit difficult to hear the site clearly from Alamogordo but it's there.

The new wing commander came in and did audit of his resources. His question to the Elmer's was why are all the holloman channels in clear in our times. They strapped it all even mutual aide talk groups they had which locals which have removed all the internal local vhf interop channels from their conventional end that patched to uhf as it would just bring garble on the VHF side. Between him and the new fire chief they got they all have no interest in mutual aide over radio. They believe everyone should use and go through their own dispatch.
