Two things i like to now ok 1# how does the auto locate now where you are if the att is not hook up to the scanner ? when i was in toronto i did it found where i was at then came back to hamilton did the same thing with out the att it said i was in hamilton ont? 2# When are they going do a firmare update for we can see radios id just like the 396xlt? That wood be nice thanks

Your post is pretty hard to follow, but I'll try...the scanner knows where you are based on the zip code you put in. If you're mobile, it knows where you are by reading your location from a specific GPS unit you plug into the scanner. "Knowing" where you are has nothing to do with the antenna.

Who knows what the next firmware update will have.

sorry i mean i just got i didnt put any zipcode in yet at all i have no gps for it
the att was off i just push auto locate and itstells me where i am i did it in hamilton it said hamilton ont i did in the falls it same the same wow if there no att hook how wood it no where u are at the time ?

I'll let someone with more expereince with that model answer that. However, PLEASE learn to use punctuation in your posts!! Proofread it too. I had to read what you wrote 4 times to try to make heads or tails of it. This is a forum, not a text message.

I understand what he is saying, I noticed the same thing. If you push the auto locate button on the scanner it will automatically find your location, what we would like to know is how does this happen? Does it scan for nearby control channels and match the SYS ID with the database or is there a GPS built in to the unit? It does not seem to matter if there is an antenna installed or not, it will still locate you. (yes I know the unit is not listed as GPS enabled) Perhaps Paul could shed some light on how this feature works.
