Recently my home patrol 1 stopped receiving the Suffolk County NY police dept on their Motorola system . I know they recently fully switched from their Motorola system to their P25 Phase 2 system. I knew the day was coming so I purchased an SDS100 last October. The thing is , the other day I updated the HP1 firmware and database with Sentinel , which I haven’t done in at least 10 years. Now I am receiving the SCPD again. How is this possible since the HP1 does not receive Phase 2 and the SCPD is now only using the Phase 2. Forgive me if this is a dumb question.

You will be able to receive any talkgroup with a D is the Mode column. Those talkgroups are still Phase 1 even through the system is Phase 2 capable. You will not be able to receive any talkgroup with a T in the Mode column. Those talkgroups are Phase 2.

If you are receiving those talkgroups, they are Phase 1. Depending how the system is programmed, a Phase 2 talkgroup may revert to Phase 1 if a Phase 1 radio affiliates with the talkgroup. The database shows a talkgroup to be Phase 2 if a Phase 2 transmission has been observed.

It is possible that the control channel is phase 1, even though the system is phase 2. Mine is doing the same thing for the system here in Utah. They alternate between phase 1 and 2. Especially if the talkgroups are patched with either vhf or some other way it will go phase 1.
