I am using my HP 2 exclusively in the car due to the larger and easier to see display. I have used the SDS100 mobile, but it is much harder to see and operate mobile. I have no way to mount an SDS200 in any position within reach. I suspect that is a problem for many users. Cars now have no under dash location and almost all have consoles that are pretty full already. I have the HP 2 mounted to a cup holder mount and it works out quite well, however of course simulcast is an issue. Fortunately NCSHP VIPER has very little simulcast which is my primary interest, but local county systems are simulcast. The HP 2 does a fair job with simulcast, but still problematic.

Can we please get an HP 3 able to handle simulcast? Is Uniden interested in offering newer models, or just not interested since no one else really offers any serious competition. Are they waiting to see what the proliferation of encryption does to the hobby?

Will Scanner Master finally have a remote head? Hopefully at a reasonable price.

Operating suggestions are appreciated.

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a simulcast-friendly HP3. I don't have official numbers to back it up but, anecdotally, I'm guessing that fewer people are scanning because of the nationwide push for encryption in the public safety sector. Uniden probably couldn't make enough to cover R&D, production, etc.

I have an HP1 & 2 and love 'em both. My daughter uses them mostly for aircraft monitoring. She's less than a mile from the airport so the OEM antennae work just fine for her. too.

You are probably right. I have also used my HP 2 in analog discovery mode to capture MilAir 225 to 400 Mhz. Worked quite well for that while in the Florida Keys searching for Tarpon Range activity. The recorded hits are very helpful. I used the BCD325P2 for 138 to 144 and 148 to 151 Mhz MilAir search since that is a short frequency range.

The HP 2 is certainly a good choice for civilian and MilAir.

I agree - if Uniden was to feel like coming out with an HP3 that deals with simulcast, they'd have already done so.

If you were to search the threads, you'll see Scannermaster has been working on a remote head for some time. I suspect the longer things are drawn out, the less likely they are to happen. But I wish it does because I'm in the same predicament, "need" the SDS 200 for simulcast but have to put in in the console because of room. Not easy to control volume.

Of course you could always get a Raspberry PI and connect to the network port of the 200. Then use Proscan for streaming to a decommissioned iPhone.

I am hoping to not have to make my own remote head solution. I certainly have the skill to, but not the time or desire to. It may come to that at some point.

I also suspect the Scanner Master head will not become reality. I hope I am wrong.

Well, For PD/SO. Not always the case with FD.

You're right but it's still not the same. In some areas, one can go days and hear nothing or maybe routine traffic on fire freqs. With PD/SO, it's different but with varying degrees of serious. Maybe a disturbance down the street but also maybe shots fired, a robbery in progress or even handling traffic for that one fire call that came in this week.

There's an SDS200 for that. Ever since the death of Paul Opitz, product development at Uniden has come to a screeching halt.
As said, can't mount an SDS200 in the car. Most cars have busy consoles and no room to install an SDS200 within reach. HP 2 is small enough to mount in a cup holder. To use an SDS200 will require a remote head. HP 2 display is large enough to see, SDS100 is not.

2017 Ford Explorer. There is no such console pocket available. The whole thing is full.

Something would have to be cut out, and even then it may not be deep enough. I never modify vehicles for radio gear. Antennas are cowl mounts using existing fender bolts. The Yaesu head is mounted to a bracket stuck under the environmental controls with double sided tape. There is just enough room to still open the small compartment below it where the USB and cigarette lighter socket are. I never deface vehicles drilling holes.
