Anytone How do I UNLOCK Anytone AT-D878UV HT?

I downloaded but dont know what to do with this file. Its too big and unwieldy to try to edit. Isnt there a way to do this without a huge list? Is there a way to manually edit the CPS so user data appears on radio? I only want a handful of contacts not the whole world.

It's a .csv, so the world is your oyster. One could filter it by state, city, first letter of last name, whatever. You could export a range of people in RI and only have those if you wanted. Looking at it in a giant 13mb blob can be imposing, but it's only data. Take smaller bites.

Ok, never mind the user.csv file. Get a pencil and piece of paper, write down the names of each of your friends. Put their call signs to the left of their name. Gather their radioid.net assigned number and put that to the left of the call sign. Now, write down thier city, state, and country to the right of their name.

Load up the CPS of your radio and enter all of that info into the contacts area. Easy as 1.2.3

Or, import one file into CPS and upload it to radio, in about ten clicks.

OK thats what I initially tried but it didnt work......I must have missed somethng because even as an experiment, I downloaded the main user database and copied to radio but it still wasnt showing up.

I am thinking about buying an Anytone AT-D878UV HT and really dont want to have to jump through all the hoops and BS of unlocking it like I had to with my Alinco MD500 mobile and TYT UV380. The radio out of the box is set for COMMERCIAL use not amateur. NO clear instructions on how to do this. No helpful videos on Youtube and the salespeople at HRO are not much help. There are LOTS of hams out there that have this radio, maybe some on here. So SOMEBODY must know how to do this.

It's a simple process:
to LOCK the keypad/controls: press * and hold for a few secs (msg follows)
to UNLOCK keypad/controls: press MENU then quickly press and hold * for a few secs (msg follows)
You can have software automatically lock it when powered on, or not ...
but the key sequence overrides that temporarily. If it's locked when you power it on, you can "unlock" it with the above. Likewise, if you never lock it, but set it and don't want to bump the keys with it in your pocket, then use the "lock" sequence to temporarily lock it. You will be able to quickly respond and use it, just not "change" it ... until you unlock it.

P. S. the initial setup gives you the option to set the radio for commercial or amateur use. There's no "fast" way around this setup, so you'll come across this right away in the early stages of the setup.
