• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

XTL/XTS5000 How do I use the KFDTool Windows to IP keyload a radio?

Howdy y'all,

I've been attempting to keyload an XTS5000 using the IP function of the KFDTool (since the hardware is sold out). I have the IP address from CPS and the radio screen (corresponding) entered into the program, however, after I click keyload I get an error message that says "Radio did not respond." Does someone know why the radio will not respond? Does it have to do with the fact that I've never keyloaded it before (besides ADP)?

Thanks,
David

Is KFD out of hirose cables or keyload adapters? There are lots of cheap keyloader adapters on ebay.
The adapter isn't going to do him much good without the KFD100 itself. He is attempting to use the software to keyload an XTS over IP, which ain't gonna happen. DLI mode only works with the APX 900.

I overlooked the fact that the KDF100 could be the missing hardware. Once the OP gets all the needed stuff he is in for the most easy and pleasant key loading experience available.

If you are near Los Angeles you could come by and load stuff with mine, otherwise, I hear the mfr is having a hard time getting some parts causing manufacturing delays.

I live in Central PA so I'm a few thousand miles away XD, I'll keep looking

I'm in the LA area if you're still okay with offering to use the KFD Key Loader. I've been trying to get one, but Daniel isn't responding.

I have a KFD100, software, Hirose cable and adapters for XTS series and some Harris. What do you want to keyload?
I have 4 XTS2500s (AN/PRC-153s). I have the keyloader adapter for them for the hirose cable. I ordered the hirose cable itself from KFD but have not received it yet. The piece I'm missing is the KFD100. I want to generate and load a matching AES-256 key on all 4 radios. I do intend to buy a KFD100 from Daniel, but no one seems to know when he might have them available again; and I've attempted to contact him several times with no luck at this point.

I was fortunate to have purchased my KFD100 prior to the onset of the chip shortage and can confirm the product works amazingly well, was built to high quality standards, and has excellent support.

However, with the continued unavailability of the KFD100's, an individual has stepped up in developing what's dubbed as the "KFDShield",
a device that attaches directly to the Arduino Uno and Arduino R3's, including their clones. This solution requires some ability and willingness to perform minor electronic fabrication and software loading tasks.

Shown below are the links (URL's) to the KFDShield hardware and software components for those of you that may be interested.

Please keep in mind that don't own one of these devices and can't attest to build quality, software functionality, or suitability to perform key loading tasks. I am only providing this response for informational purposes.

The KFDShield project is an excellent alternative to the KFD100, and was developed with Dan's assistance and approval. The build quality of the board is excellent, along the lines of the tool, and while larger works exactly the same. The Arduino it is based on is easy to program (you only need to do this once), you can get the Shield with the headers already attached if your soldering skills are marginal, so all you need to do is plug the board in.

The software is a fork of the KFDTool. Keep in mind it is still in development, and the Shield implementation of the software has a com port quirk, but it works exactly the same. I have one as a backup, and have given away several "kits" to colleagues as they missed out on the last run of the Tool, and there have been no complaints. Highly recommended for those that are looking for a simple and easy solution.

Sorry was out of town over the weekend. I work in the LA Area for UCLA (Westwood/WLA).
I am not quite certain how to PM (I may not have permissions to do that yet possibly).

I will check it out - maybe this will work in the short term.

For the KFDShield, what are you doing for cables? Can I just order the ones from KFDTool, or do I need unterminated radio-specific cables to use the Euroblock connector?

I need to connect to Kenwood mobile, Kenwood multi-pin portable, and Motorola GCAI.

Ok this all new ground for me. I have the KFDSHield ,the correct cables and Arduino UNO REV3 and so far I have been able to to get the Arduino programmed by using the app for it and the software/firmware after downloading the code for KFDTool-Master witch has an area to program the arduino as well. When i did that i got the power and a blue LED connected to the micro controller. Now I am stuck. Can anyone give me any idea what is next? I tried to run the KFDTool but it did not discover my KFDShield.
