Have an inlaw that works for Columbus PD. Motorola Type II system. I routinely listen to his talkgroup, but would like to put his radio ID in as a private. How can I find out his radio id? Can ot be done in analysis mode or anything on the PSR-500? BTW, I have asked him, and he of course has no idea what his ID is. (as can be expected)

Radio ID"s come with analysis software, there's no way to restrict your listening to just his radio though.

Another way is to have him start a private call with another radio, then you'll see it displayed on yours.

Correct about getting the ID, Now on the GRE I have no idea if it can be done, but it seems to have the capabilities of Uniden plus, so I think it's just a matter of finding the right "trick."

On the BCD396 you can monitor I-call individual id's. If I set my BCD396 for I-call only and scan id, but do not have the wild card, (.0 or 700000) it will receive nothing. If set for search instead of scan, all I-calls come through.

So, I could take that I-call id (if I found it) and set it up in a scan list and that would the only one that comes through. I don't know about the other party involved in the I-call though, what would happen with them.

See this thread for more information.

When I get a chance I'll test it with a system that uses a lot of I-calls.

You can do that with I-Calls, but I think he's asking only to hear his transmissions on the talkgroup - and no radio is capable of that.

Hmmm, I was under the impression that on the PSR-500 you could set a talkgroup to private, enter a specific Radio ID, and be able to listen to it. I base this on pages 40, 42, and 104 of the manual. Perhaps I am misunderstanding what it is saying.
Here is some of what the manual says.

HINT: TGRP objects are also used to receive Private/Individual Calls on
trunking systems that support these call types. Simply change the
Type: field from Group to Private. A Wildcard TGRP object with the
Type: field set to Private will monitor all Private/Individual Calls
seen on the system, or you can specify a radio ID to watch for in the
ID: field.

• Private Call with ID: will only monitor private call radio traffic
on the specified TGID (enter the desired Radio ID in the TGID
field, and set the Type field to Private)

ID
Type
Decimal, hex or AFS
depending on TSYS type
The digital address of the talkgroup or individual
radio ID on the trunked radio system.
Group or Private Use Group for talkgroup ID, Private for individual
radio ID.

Nope.

That's for Private Calls (I-Calls)
Right private call only... His specific radio id would be one in a list of radio users. But all you could see would be the list, with none specific.

But you could get Unitrunker and a tapped radio through a computer and the software to do what you want I believe. But you would still need the specific radio id.
