How is it that I can hear....

Chatham county and Pittsboro from my QTH in Fuquay Varina but not hear anything in Durham? I have a Diamond Discone antenna up about 30 ft and a 996xt.

Hey Joe,
Durham's 800Mhz system has a null towards the Fuquay area. Obviously Durham's public
safety does not have to answer calls in the Fuquay area so their is no need for
the system to provide coverage in that area.

In all seriousness the system might be just a little too far away to be received in your area
with a discone.
Once you leave Cary/Western Wake County area the 4134 system fades out unless you have a directional beam.
Only way I see of increasing your chance to pick 'em up is to either switch out the discone for a directional antenna or get a job in the Durham area that will allow you to monitor them each day.
That's the only way I can monitor them each day: I work in Durham

Thanks, Marshall. Don't want to move to Durham for sure!
It's just odd that they are only 6-7 miles different distance away from me and I get Chatham clear as a bell and nothing in Durham. I also get Orange and Johnston real well. I also have a problem getting NCHP.
