DynDNS current IP is 192.168.0.1

1. I have changed the file name from localhost to my suwanneeriver29.selfip.net (nothing happening still says connecting I have my firewall/virus thing off.

I have question on blind 127.0.0.1 for icecast I wonder if I can change that to my ip.

It will work localhost:8000/live when I change that back to localhost in oddcast do I have to leave localhost server ip?

Localhost a.k.a. 127.0.0.1 should only be showing in Oddcast. It is ok to leave this in Oddcast.

Don't change the filename in Icecast to your Dyndns address. Leave that alone. I was talking about the parameter in the Icecast config file labeled, <hostname>.

DynDNS current IP should be showing your INTERNET IP address (192.168.0.1 is an INTERNAL LAN address, not your internet IP address)(which can also be found @ www.whatismyipaddress.com). Again, install any applet they provide to update your INTERNET IP automatically to their server.

There are many ways to skin this cat and I'll give you two:

1. Feed your audio into two different soundcards. Use one card for streaming, the other for recording.

2. Use a program like TotalRecorder. There are MANY MANY different programs out there similar to this one so use the one you want. You basically connect to your own stream, either locally or over your LAN and a program such as this will record whatever your media player is playing. With the proper soundcard it is possible to connect to your own feed locally while still streaming to the internet, all the while only providing Wave output to your speakers/computer/Recording program capable of recording wave out.

before i sound like to much of an idiot,
i think im having a problem with forwarding my ports. i went to:
http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-604/Icecast.htm
and followed their directions, but where it says "Enter Static IP Address" , i put in gcems33.homeip.net

and then i scroll down to see all the other setting, now when i actually go in to configure my router, it wont let me put all of my static address, as its too long.
so there i am stumped....
if i can fix that, ill ask my next question...

ppems. Your static ip the router ios needing is your local ip not external ip. this will be what ever you set your pc to use. Most likely will be ip 192.168.1.100 SM255.255.255.0 GW 192.168.1.1 and DNS 192.168.1.1 Feel free to pm me sometime if you need help.

If you use a compatible scanner (the 396 is the only one I see in your list that'll work), you can follow Scott's (from scancapecod.us) tutorial on how to "inject" the text tags into the audio stream.

Otherwise, you can set-up a video feed using a cheap video camera. I would suggest using Nullsoft's NSV instead of Windows Media Encoder because it consumes way less bandwidth without sacrificing hardly any quality.

Ports Blocked By Cable Company

My apologies in advance for joining this thread late in the game, but I've got some questions regarding port set-up that I could really use some help with. This group looks like it just might be the right resource for me.

After having downloaded the appropriate software & following many tutorials on this subject, I still can't get my feed on-line. My cable company (Adelphia) has confirmed that they block alot of the ports that would be typically used to host a server (i.e. 8000, 8080 etc.). I'm assuming that this is my problem?

The only port that I have been able to get to work from outside my home network is the one used for Windows XP remote desktop (port 3389). This allows me to access my home PC from work. I did need to set-up port forwarding on my router for this to work.

So, in a nutshell, I'm looking for any tips, suggestions or help that the group may have for me in terms of how to get around the port blocking situation, if that's what my problem is.

Thanks in advance - Mike

You can use any port to stream your scanner - forward 8000 and see if Adelphia was telling you the truth. If they were, try some high port, like 38000 or 48000 (just to make it easy to remember - you can use any port between 1025 and 65535).

If there's a router between your stream server and the internet (the usual situation), and the port you're using for the stream isn't forwarded by that router (also the usual situation), your stream won't be available from the internet.

Exactly the problem NYRHKY94 is having - in your case it's not a problem, it's what you want.

So the icast server i run only sends out the link to my ip for other people to connect to my pc???
Or is it sending out the stream ??

It sends out the stream. If you want it to - and you don't - it can send information to a public web site so people on the internet can find your stream. Just don't set it up to do that function.

In addition to Icecast you'll need a source - I use Winamp, the lame encoder and Oddcast - all free.

I have those three and it works.
I need to know if it sends a stream that my isp would see and come after me for tos
I think your on Lond Island and know Optonline does not allow servers of any kind..How do you prevent (toggle) the stream from going on the internet----not forward my port???
I am sorry but I am new to the streaming thing..
Is there a guide for set up on a network only??
