My son has the HP2 that I bought him for Christmas what we would like to know is there any way that the range can go higher than 30, I have looked at his HP2 and tried everything but the HP2 only allows you a range of 30. Can someone help on this issue ?

THANK YOU

Being that it is based on the HP-1 platform (which I have), I doubt it. That being said, if you are physically able to hear a frequency further out than 30 miles and are not scanning from the database, you should still be able to pick it up. To my knowledge, the range only comes into play when loading the full database. If you set it to 10 miles, it will only load systems within 10 miles or those that overlap into the 10 mile range. Theoretically, even using the full database, you should be able to hear further out than the 30 miles because systems that overlap into that 30 miles range would be included. Now, if you're talking 75 miles...I doubt it.

The range limit cannot be increased unless Uniden makes the change in firmware. But, everything dmg said is true. You can make a FL with Systems from any distance, the 30 miles only has to overlap the service area of the service to be included, and your actual reception range is not restricted to 30 miles. In some cases, you will pick up much farther. In some cases, you won't pick up included services closer than 30 miles if the terrain or other factors are blocking the signal.

I have the HP2 also and I have it connected to a Discone antenna up on my tower at 50 feet. I am receiving stations from 55-60 miles away with no problems (land based stations). I am also receiving aircraft from as far away as 100 miles.

Couldn't the OP just enter a ZIP code that is 20-40 miles further out? If it didn't work, just go back to the current one.
