I just started a feed from my house and have noticed there's a baseline hum to the audio which when there's voice traffic isn't an issue but can be a bit annoying. I've heard this hum on feeds I listened to in the past before becoming a provider, but am unsure what's causing it.

I'm broadcasting from a uniden home patrol 1 and it seems I can lower the hum by lowering the level on the "line in" properties on my PC, but didn't know if this might be a result of a poor audio cable or if there's a certain amount of volume from the scanner as well as a certain amount of level gain on the PC side that's optimum for reducing this. Any advice is appreciated,

Thanks
~G

A hum in a feed is most often caused by a ground loop. Could be a power supply, or your PC. Most times this is solved by getting a "Ground Loop Isolator". They can be found on ScannerMaster for about $22. Isolator Cable Male To Male

well, looks like you were correct, I pulled the wal wart and ran the scanner off battery alone and the hum is gone completely. Looks like a ground loop isolator is in my future..

thanks again for the help

Glad I could help and save! Im not sure what the difference is between line in and microphone but mine has worked good on microphone for ever. Keep scanner volume to a minimum and input volume to 100%. Enjoy
