Things got a little busy around here this evening and I didn't get as much done as I wanted to as fast as I wanted to. I have taken the MFJ-249B Manual and read through the first part of it.
I highlighted key items. Please take a read up through Page 5 of 14. Let me know if that sounds like Greek to you or if you think you will be able to carefully follow instructions and not damage this sensitive instrument. The "WARNING" on Page 2 is super important:
WARNING: Failure to follow the operating instructions may cause false readings or even
damage this unit.
Up through Page 4 of 14 will be familiarizing yourself with the unit's options and getting it powered up. I don't know if you have the MFJ-1315 Power Supply which is probably a wall wart (Page 3 of 14).
Before you insert any batteries into the unit, you need to determine how Jumper 5 (J5) is set (see Pages 3 and 4 of 5) for Alkaline or NiCd battery installation. Which battery type do you want to use? Probably not NiCd batteries...
So as you see, you need to read the instructions and do exactly as it says. You may even find old corroded batteries installed that will have to be carefully removed and the contacts carefully cleaned.
Sooooooo... Let the fun begin! Cheers! Dave
P.S. Where is
@merlin?
