City of Broken Arrow, OHP Troop B Tulsa, Sapulpa PD, Tulsa Life Flight, American Electric Power DBA PSO and OG and E use them A LOT! Also I have been getting digital ones here in Tulsa on the State/Tulsa as well and can't identify them due the fact I don't have a digital radio.

What are I-calls? Please explain. I joined up to learn and add knowledge where I can. Thanks.

I-Calls or Private Call as OHP likes to say, are private line ID's that generally only Uniden scanners can receive. They are direct unit to unit transmissions that cannot be heard by other users of the system. On the BC780XLT you can search for I-Calls or you can enter the specific ID to monitor.

One thing I have always wondered about I-Calls, does each radio have separate "channels" for each possible I-Call, or is there some kind of menu or system to choose another user, or does Motorola have a Nural Input Device(TM)? If you're not a Trekkie ignore those last few words.

Next to a scanner...
It depends on the radio. Those "simpler" models with fewer keys usually have a call list. This is just a list in which you can select which radio to talk to. THe upper level radios (Keypad), you can have a list, and also input an ID to talk to. Most people probably don't know their ID (some systems are set up really nice can have your unit ID the same as your radio ID: ie: Your Mobile would be 1134 for Unit 134, and your HT would be 2134 or something like that.) but some do, and are listed on the radio. EDACS radios work the same way - you can have a list, or you can punch in an ID also.

Some systems have I-call disabled administrativly - it won't work even if the radios are programmed for I-call. Another thing fun with trunked systems is the page function (makes the target radio beep until you answer it)- no scanners out now (that I know of) pick this up - you'd have to use trunker.
