I contacted GRE about an MPT1327 capable radio and they responded.

After reading about the new digital radio scanner range from GRE on this forum thread http://www.radioreference.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70509 I sent them an email regarding the possibility of having MPT1327 capability in the portable radio. I received an email reply from the Business section Manager and he posed some questions I think you might find of interest.

Can you tell the market share of MPT1327 and other system such as Motorola including APCO25 in UK or EC?

Do you know how many Scanner hobby peoples are in UK ?
The big problem is the market size and the unit price.

I think the market size of UK will be very roughly 1/20 of US and it is hard to callback of the development cost.

It will take more than US100,000.

We like to study the development after I was informed of the EU market.

To clarify, all of the above are the questions he asked. I have not yet replied because I want to be as accurate as possible. Morfis, I would really appreciate your input assuming MPT interests you.

I think he is asking how much MPT1327 is used in the UK or how many nets there are. Is anyone interested in having an MPT1327 capable portable radio?

Maybe this could be a chance to convince them to seriously consider it. The email I contacted them under is gre-mail@gre.co.jp

MPT1327 in the US

We have a MPT1327 system here in Wyoming believe it or not, so I would be interested in that. Also, people travel and might want that capability. Isn't 1327 used in Australia and New Zealand also? I would think that the MPT1327 wouldn't be any harder to put in than LTR - unless it is trademarked.

Yes MPT1327 is also used in Australia and Canada. GRE will only seriously consider implementing such a feature if there is enough demand. For anyone who is really interested in this please send them an email and let them know your interest. gre-mail@gre.co.jp

Just let them know you are interested in having an MPT1327 feature in the new GRE PSR-500 model.

There is no chance of this being implemented if no one lets them know of the demand. They already expressed an interest in expanding the band ranges to cator for some of the EU / UK bands so that is a good start considering it is a US radio.

The protocol standard is freely available for download from Ofcom's website.

There are MPT1327 systems in use all around the world (including by UK forces in Iraq) because it is relatively cheap.

Yes, Australia and New Zealand both have National MPT1327 networks, and Australia also has a number of large Regional networks.

Of all the Trunking protocols, I believe MPT1327 would be the easiest to implement. MPT1327 is an OPEN Standard (which means anyone can use it), unlike most of the other systems, which are proprietary.

If GRE is considering adding MPT1327, it would be best if they went the 'full hog' and included MPT1343 as well.

Also, I thought I read somewhere that new MPT1327 systems are popping up all over the place in the US. An added incentive for including MPT1327 in a 'US radio'.

I tried a search by trunking protocol in the database but you need freqs as well. Perhaps an admin person can access that search for number of systems and submit to GRE.
In CT there is one at a casino. There is a new multi site system in MA for a utility as well.

I have already sent GRE quite a big list of the MPT1327 systems in the UK including the frequencies and ranges as well as some of those in Australia. The list shows its extensive use but this will not make any difference unless people let them know they have an interest in MPT being able to be decoded on the new radio. It sounds like they are seriously considering it as opposed to just ignoring it like others have done in the past (Uniden EU) but I do not think it is going to happen. Imagine the approximate 222 views of this thread each expressed an interest via email or told others about the possibility.

I'm here a lot
Thank you for getting the ball rolling on this Lodis . :)

I listen to two MPT1327 systems in Canada and would love to trunktrack them rather than listen conventionally to these systems.
