• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The "scrambler" is simply voice inversion and has nothing to do with CTCSS or DCS.

I have an old pair of Motorola FRS radios (Talkabout T6310) that have that function. I used it once on a crowded cruise ship.
Are you saying the encryption listed for my uv17 is voice inversion? I remember that from back in the 80s or earlier and some pd’s used it but it died quickly for that use. I would doubt that this is what is in the 17 but I have no source for this information and have not tried.

That's the same ol' voice inversion!! It died for public service because it was easy to unscramble. Now public service uses digital encryption because they use digital radio modes.

Here's an interesting old thread on the topic for GMRS: Midland nailed by FCC - inversion scrambling illegal?

I thought I knew everything😀thanks! I should read the manuals! Again, I thought this had disappeared with current digital. I admit I had a little box I used to decrypt the pd until they gave it up😉

I see 2 radios from different manufactures here. One radio has a dual display, which I assume that either a Part E dedicated GMRS with wide range receive and the other is just a basic GMRS simplex only with NOAA ALERT. I really don't understand if you're trying ask a question here or I'm not understanding your post.

If I were to take a guess, I'd have to say that you wonder about manufactures following the same standards, as channel assignments. If that's the case, the channel list for Radio Brand A should be the same for Radio Brand B.
Although manufactures have the same standard 22 channels, their sub- channels or privacy tone may differ, but that usually rare.
If I still didn't I apologize and I'll shut up
