• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I found @Slowmovers rig.

Nice write up on the President Lincoln radio. I really enjoy my Washington on 10 and 11 meters. I believe it has better ears than my Yaesu FT-710. I have made as many 10 meter contacts with my President Washington in my mobile as I have made with the FT-710 on my base. Though I am still working on a good antenna for the FT-710. My home base is plagued with RF from the transformer and power lines about 50 yards away.

This is the Mic I am using on the Washington. Nothing but good reports! When are they going to come out with a President Trump radio?

Thanks

“. . My home base is plagued with RF from the transformer and power lines about 50 yards away . . . .”

My “home base” is pretty much alongside same. That it’s all new is the saving grace (at present).

Takes a slightly weird day for me to TX/RX at all. Down in a vale. That’s on the quarterwave tuned at 107” as pictured above.

Haven’t yet connected the KL203 I might switch in with it when I want to reach out as I don’t have power runs finished.

This gets me up over 100W Peak. Forgotten what the Average is, but it’s higher than the Prez when it’s turned up.

Note: This radio doesn’t like an outboard amp.
Be careful.

Ya.....I have a high noise level here at home. The Ft-710 does a pretty good job of suppressing it. It is hard at time to pull some of them weaker signals out of my noise level. There is a bigger learning curve going from CB to Ham. I still really enjoy CB though and have made a lot of local CB friends.

Since they’re in a known fixed position I’d imagine you’ve already looked at QRM Eliminators.

BHP may have something. I know MFJ used to. The small BHP pieces I have work as advertised (can’t speak more highly than that, can we?)

And all the big dogs run this on the mobile (mines on the big truck rig).

Treat both coax ends, IMO.
Mobile or Base.

Many from which to choose, today, after a quick look-around:

I expect it’ll be a need for me.

My son bought this antenna for 10M use to carry along or when the ft891 is in the house:

I was going to get that same antenna but I went with this one instead. It should be here tomorrow. I haven't looked into the QRM Eliminators yet but will in a day or too. Thanks I new nothing about that one.

End Fed sure appears to have some advantages in portability and performance.

As to QRM device that sort of thing I start by seeing what DXE or HRO offer to use as my references.

HRO has a house in Phoenix. I whipped in there in big truck during Covid. Man had my telephone order to walk it out the door, there. Gone in 5”. Won’t ever forget the graciousness of that act.

This fella could maybe use an end fed. Needs a fresh start from working groundwave so hard

That’s the one I use at vertical feedpoint.

There’s another identical in size/appearance except Model # & Description I use at radio (below).

The MyAntennas piece replaced that.

IMG_0676.jpeg

Both PALOMAR filters are now on the pickup truck radio rig.

The NRC radios are such that I haven’t run to the limit of what they can deal with in terms of vertical height or devices which claim to cut the S/NR. Length and devices make a difference every time.

But add to complexity thus potential for problems.

“Need a 90 adapter? Get ready to shell out for expensive ones”.

“Something funny? Better re-do pre-trip radio/anntenna inspection as somethings gotten loose”.

IOW, 14-hr back-to-back days where in a week one travels farther than most Americans do in almost two months . . TLC is no big deal.

Might be an irritant for Joe Average.

PRESIDENT RANDY
HANDHELD

This is part of my pickup radio rig. Kept in console ready-for-use.

Thread has quite a few accessories shown/discussed.

Road problems may mean, dismount to go take a look or obtain a higher vantage point.

With a passenger out on the loose it’s easy comms between pickup and out to a mile or more.

Randy and Bearcat Wireless offer leverage of the main radio system.

IMG_8694.jpeg

Going to need a review of this:

Better, IMO.

12-miles handheld to handheld

See video notes

The Randy is dependent on how well accessorized.

Also serves as second back-up radio.

I’ve busted a number of these trying to get them to work. They do. Just have to be careful threading them on. And not gorilla tight.

Today was revamping coax in pickup prior to an errands trip. Skip was very strong. And the Linc 2 has a hissy receive. R&R’d this device besides a coax jumpe change and it was a slight improvement. On a quieter radio may not be noticeable.

A good day to have checked the overall rig for noise.

Posted, as it’s a dirt cheap experiment to run.
Just don’t expect it to be sturdy.

This is usually a last ditch effort in a big truck to get a radio to work okay with cheap factory coax.

Pulled the L-A back off today. Had unusually the right conditions in Local to see if worth using.

Nope, not really.

Palomar feedpoint choke only other device in line (my transceiver-to-antenna coax is 4’ total length; soon to be 2’).

— With double 18’ legs on a cophase harness (big truck) the effect was more noticeable.

I was about ready for a road trip AM-19 was so good today. Near zero Skip. Radio closest to wide open I’ve used it this installation in this area.

Finally found the missing half of my dedicated installation tools. Thought they’d taken a walk after truck driver friend and I did his Freightliner back in March or April.

Weather is finally to seasonal norm of 50-75F so it’s about perfect to finish the waiting majority of this install.

Am ready to try some powah thru this rig (been using cigar lighter thus it’s turned down) as 10W AM ain’t 50W, ever.

Pretty sure I’ll be able to start making contacts on IH20 far earlier in those drives north to meet that E-W road.
