IC-r8600: Max Hold: Select the peak level holding function? (page 4-5 in manual)

Select the peak level holding function.
• OFF: Turns OFF the peak level holding function.
• 10s Hold: Holds the peak spectrum for 10 seconds.
• ON: Turns ON the peak spectrum.

I'm at a loss to what the above is doing.
With the "10s Hold" option set, the "Peak Search" spectrum is still held continuously.
