If I have the volume up and the IC7100 receives a loud signal it shuts down. Any ideas on why?

This is a known problem with the IC-7100.

The control head gets its power over the extension cable with the shielded RJ45 connectors. That includes power for the audio amp in the control head. If you have the radio configured to use the speaker in the control head, loud sounds will cause the audio amp to draw more current than the soda straw, aka control cable, can pass.

About the only solution is to turn down the volume or connect an external speaker to the RF deck.

I have three IC-7100s and they all work perfect as just a radio and play very loud from the control head speaker. I use all of them now with RemoteRig boxes and one RemoteRig end that connects to a control head has the speaker/power loss problem. It turns out to be a defect in the RemoteRig box that supplies power to the control head and I found a way around it by supplying external 5V power to the RemoteRig USB port.

Found this by accident when the system worked fine with a laptop connected for programming then it would go into power fail when the speaker was turned up with no laptop connected. Someday I'll dig into the RemoteRig box and find the actual problem.

That makes perfect sense. Wish there was a way to power the head separately. I just have to add a speaker. Thanks
