We use diversity receivers for wireless microphones at the TV station where I worked. Multipath reception can cause signals to cancel out at an antenna location. It is unlikely you will lose signal on 2 antennas at different locations at the same time. There are 2 separate receivers, each with its own antenna, for the microphone. The audio output is taken from the receiver with the best signal. It makes the microphones much more reliable.

I didn't know what D-Star was until I bought a Kenwood TH-D74 tri-bander.

No one around my local area uses D-Star so it's pretty worthless where I live. I'm glad I didn't buy it just for that.
