Icom: Icom IC-3200A display and squelch problem

I got a Icom ic 3200 basically given to me but the display does not show all characters properly and it seems the squelch pot does not have any affect because it’s open. I know Icom had squelch pot issues with other radios. I found something on line where a guy was able to add a second display but there are no instructions or parts list. Has anyone had these issues with this radio and had any luck fixing them?

I have one of these with a bad squelch control . There is one onEbay right now but he wants way too much for the control. I am considering hooking up an external squelch control and an external power high low switch. I tried taking the control apart. It is not serviceable. Mi display works fine though.I am going to put a copy of the service manual on my website, w5van.com .
