Can someone explain how vsc actually works.
I have a load of airband frequencies programmed into radio vsc was not turned on when. Programed in by butel.
So when scanning if it stops scanning on a noise channel I'll press quick then switch on vsc it will then continue but on next pass of scan it will stop on that channel as noise it detected and vsc is of . If I overwrite the channel with vsc on it stays on.
Then again if I go to a channel that I've overwritten. With vsc on if I turn it off and go back to channel it's back on again ?

Found this on a google search…..

VSC is a feature on the IC-R30 that allows the radio to ignore noise and only open the squelch when voice audio is detected. This is particularly useful on HF bands where the signal-to-noise ratio can be poor and standard squelch can be difficult to set reliably. VSC helps to prevent the receiver from constantly stopping on noisy channels during scans

Quite simply, as what it says in the R30 manual ...

Screenshot (1).png

If you press the 'QUICK' button and then choose 'VSC', the voice squelch control will activate only on the memory channel that's currently displayed. If you want the 'VSC' permanently 'on' on that memory channel, you will need to write the channel to memory.

Yes I've read that but when you activate it in a certain memory channel it turns of when the scan continues . Or if you hold on a channel then put on vsc and move up a channel then back down to the channel you put vsc on it will be off .. . As the manual doesn't mention much about vsc I'm trying to figure out if this is normal

You say the VSC turns off when the scan continues ... yes it will, unless you write the frequency to a memory channel with the VSC enabled.

The VSC cannot be enabled for a Group i.e. Group 00, 01, 02 etc. It can only be enabled for each individual frequency stored in that memory Group. You will have to manually enable VSC for every memory channel in the Group and save each memory channel.

Even quicker if you have Microsoft Excel as you can enable VSC for multiple Groups using copy/paste. To achieve this much quicker way, you will need to connect your R30 to your PC.

No, not a problem with the receiver.

If you have an SD Card inserted into your R30, it would be much quicker to export all Groups or a single Group as a .csv file and edit that file using preferably Microsoft Excel. Enabling VSC for a full Group of 100 entries would take a long time manually.
