So I picked up an Icom Id-51a yesterday and for the life of me I can't get it to read from a micro-sd. Ive tried 3 different micro-sd's so far so I know it isn't a bad card. I managed to get it to read the cards last night but then when I turned it on this morning it was back to not reading them. It just says card isn't formatted in fat/fat 32, which I know they are. Icom tech support was absolutely no help, I like the radio and want to keep it but if I can't figure this out I'll be forced to return it. Any help would be appreciated.

This isn't specific to the '51A, but it's worked for me in other devices, notably the Home Patrol. Take your microSD and format on a computer for FAT32 first. Then try inserting it into the HT.

Thanks for the reply, yeah I've tried that, I've gone back and forth formatting and trying. I guess I'm not sure if there's some little tweak I'm missing or if its just a defective radio.

I could never get it to read any of the sd cards I tried first. I managed to get it to read my cards after a few hours of playing with it. Then when I turned on the next morning it was nothing again.

I am having this same issue right now with my brand new ID-51A. Were you ever able to find a resolution? I have not found another reference to this issue anywhere on the Web.

I have the ID51 and the ID31, formatted them in the radio and they store with no problem. I'd like to know if he found a solution too!

Try formatting the card in digital camera, I had similar issue with SD cards not readable after I formatted them FAT32 on a PC.

That was a great idea! Unfortunately, it did not help. Fortunately, I have the USB cable, so I will rely upon that while waiting for a solution, which I expect will require a firmware update from ICOM.

I can't believe I only noticed just now that I never did update this thread with the solution! Anyways, better late than never.

I did contact Icom servicing and it was quickly determined that my radio might need servicing. I sent it to Icom and they did repair it under warranty and return it to me reasonably quickly. And it has been working AOK ever since.

Again, sorry for the delay in updating and I hope I haven't put anyone out who could have used this information sooner somehow.

I left out the details only because they were so boring: They said there was a flaw on the circuit board. They swapped it out.

ID-51Plus microSD card booting issue

I got ID-51Plus 3 years ago and some weeks ago I have got the same issue. Having microSD card inside the radio I switched it as usually but the microSD card does not boot and the icon of it does not stop blinking. So I am not able to read or write or format the card. The microSD is formatted correctly and all worked well before those couple of weeks. I tried the clean contacts of the microSD slot but no success. Is it problem in failure of the firmware of the radio? I tried also 2 another microSD cards with no success.
I do not suppose there is some flaw on the circuit board where the slot is situated. May reprogramming of the firmware help?
