I have an Icom 52A Plus (60th Anniversary)

Current firmware is ver 1.0

Looking at upgrading and the Icom firmware website has ver 1.10 for ID-52A Plus/ID-52E Plus, but when you download it the file is named "52PLUSE110.dat".

Given that the file says "E", can this safely be used for the "A" model?

Excellent question. I think I'd ask the official Icom importer for your part of the world. I'd be very hesitant to load firmware intended for the North American or European market on a radio intended for Asia-Pacific.

I have the firmware updates with the E in them on my ID-52 PLUS (60th anniversary version). I copied the DAT file to the radio's microSD card, then went through the firmware update process. The radio works fine.

I went through the Japanese side of the Icom Japan web site, and found the firmware update for the Japanese versions of this radio. Those radios use firmware files with a "J" instead of the "E" in the filenames. I am not going to try anything with those files on my radio.

By the way, Icom just released a version 1.11 update for the ID-52 PLUS on Monday (23 December), which is now on my radio. You can go directly to the 1.11 firmware on your radio; you don't have to first install the version 1.10 firmware and then the 1.11 firmware. Here is how the 1.11 version shows up on my radio:

The microSD card on my ID-52 PLUS now has the two DAT files for the firmware updates:

I could go back and delete the 52PLUSE110.dat file from the radio's microSD card, or delete both files, but I haven't bothered to do that.

Good luck!
