• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

@Jspla: In other words, the large (say, 100+ feet tall) metal towers that most non-radio people think are single antennas are usually not; they are structures on which many actual antennas are mounted. Generally, the exception is AM broadcast radio stations, which are so low in frequency, and therefore long in wavelength (hundreds of meters) that one or more whole towers (mast radiators) are used as an antenna. Most frequencies used for mobile communications, TV, etc. are much higher, with much shorter wavelengths (centimeters), requiring shorter antennas, measuring a few tens of feet to just a few inches, or microwave "dishes" that can be inches to feet to tens of feet diameter.

Appreciate all the info guys. That's a peak that sits overlooking Dulce, NM. I pulled the pic from Google. I was there with a friend last week off-roading before we continued onto White Sands. Not 5g Covid stuff just curious as they didn't look like regular Civ cell towers. There were some funny looking trees on another Mountain that were obviously Cell towers but my MOS wasn't Comms so here I am.

I apologize for making an assumption. Most of the time a first time poster asks about antenna array, it's usually something along the crazy lines.

The building and large tower looks like a TV station, the middle looks like a wisp or cellular backhaul site.

FWIW, that appears to be known as the Archuleta Mesa site (that website may have been what led @KK6ZTE in the direction they went :) ), and confirmed by some licenses at the site (e.g. WPMF568). Nothing there in the NTIA listing. More pics of the KCIE FM broadcast site are here.

That makes perfect sense. The lady at the gas station asked us what brought us to Dulce and I pointed at my mud covered truck. She said most outsiders come for the UFO tours. Very friendly people & the scenery was epic. Thanks for all your help guys.
