I worked for IDOT 1978 2002 We had old Motorola and a few old ISPERN radios that were changed to our frequencies on low band VHF. In the early 80's we got new low band radios that when the mic was keyed the dispatcher at the District HQ could see who was transmitting even if no audio was used, This really cleaned up the radio traffic, Especially on night time snow removal operations! The Motorola Motracs and the long whip antennas were the best! Truck to truck with easily a range of 40 to 50 miles. They were tube type radios that would really buzz when you keyed them up! The good ole days

Yep! That is called ANI (Automatic Number Identification). There were several different protocols, the most common were Motorola's MDC and GE's GE-Star. A short databurst would go out when the mic was keyed, that would contain a unique identifier for that radio.

ANI cleaned up a lot of poor radio operations for many agencies!

I was going through Broadcastify calls archive tonight trying to identify some of the IDOT yard talkgroups to get better descriptions.

If you know any talkgroups that need updated in the database, please place a submissions and we'll get it fixed!

Hello As far as I know none have changed. Some of the Districts have traded some of the Yards in the last few years but the database looks correct to me. Some of the Yards in District 5 Paris are now in the Effingham District. I cannot speak to what other Districts have done.
