You not going to hear anything. Everything is encrypted and what RR has for Augusta University PD has been wrong for several years now, and now they are operating on the new Richmond County (Augusta) radio site which is completely encrypted. You can still listen to Aiken Co Sheriff, Aiken City PD, and North Augusta, SC PD along with their FD. Sorry about that, scanning in Augusta metro (CSRA) is not happening anymore.

When that sherffic leaves or retires if wanted to they could build own system or go back nother system if wanted to suck sc or build out there own system or go to ga system i could see that happing I hear lot people aren't happy

No one "opens up" their public safety radio system to appease scanner enthusiasts. Not going to happen. Public safety radio systems are for their users safety and not for public entertainment. You can thank social media wanna-be dispatchers and stalkers- but it is what it is.

There is other stuff one can still monitor like amateur radio, aircraft, business radio systems that aren't encrypted, FRS/GMRS (including the illegally operating linked system that one might mistake for an amateur repeater system), itinerant business band, etc etc.

agreed, theres plenty of interesting non public safety things to listen to, i have pretty much fell out of scanning in general. my scanners are on a shelf above my amateur radio equipment. At least for me, i find amatuer radio much more enjoyable than hearing about another lift assist. Our system here is unencrypted minus LE but not much activity other than fire and ems. I guess id rather chase DX on HF CW or SSB..

Orange County Fire even developed a series of "Official feeds" with Broadcastify to more easily share their communications with their taxpayers after the communications authority strapped their new radios encrypted and couldn't remove it quickly when requested. They went so far as to set up a separate feed for individual tac channels so hobbyists could still listen to exactly what they prefer to hear.

I'm certainly not suggesting it is widespread or going to happen in Georgia. Because "communism, corruption, and all that nonsense." ;)

You can also add "Sally who builds yachts" to the "because of" list...just saying, those loose lips are sinking ships at an alarming rate.

No doubt about that. And although it's against my own (personal, hobbyist) interest, as a result I have a fair amount of understanding why LE moves toward encryption these days. Gone are the days of LE not caring so much about those who monitor their comms because they are few, and are made up almost entirely of (supportive) hobbyists who need some level of technical expertise to even figure out how to listen.

Moving fire communications to encryption doesn't have such an easy innocent explanation, though.

But I'm edging up against RR policies here so I'll stop...

Well, it came up today during a debriefing. Allegedly the NOLA bomber had in his vehicle, a Uniden SDS100 in a cup holder, next to "bomb materials". I saw it flash on ABC News tonight in B-roll of the truck. It was mentioned in reference to upcoming events. Yep, better stop talking about the obvious as the housekeepers don't like it, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. Only one turd is required to ruin the punch bowl.
