Good bug report....
Thats good to know for others who may say thier digital quality degraded after using USAD.
Makes it easier to pinpoint the problem and tell them to change it back to 3

Thanks

Everytime I run USAD I have to go back and change the 1 to a 3. I didn't know this till I saw your post. I was wondering why it sound bad again after running USAD.

You will not lose CC-only mode. Whoever told you that was wrong. Do the update.

"Good" or "bad" is up to you to decide... Read the features, if you think they would improve your scanner, then install.

>You will not lose CC-only mode.<
Maybe not, but it does indeed effect the CC-only search mode option in the analog 800mhz 3600bd seach. I think thats what he's talking about.

No, he's asking about cc-only mode, and that is not affected.

rdale..... True, He's asking about cc-only mode but He's confusing that with the discussions in this thread about CC Search feature not working with the update.

When he saw some of the people say they lost CC Search mode he assumed it meant CC-ONLY mode, which of course it isn't the same thing.

MEDIC: You're not going to lose the ability to do CC-ONLY trunking, and you're not going to lose the ability to scan mixed mode type II systems (i.e. 3600bps analog/p25) systems. My county is using one of these. I did the update yesterday and its working perfectly fine for me. Wanna hear it for yourself, click on the link in my signature to listen to my ONLINE SCANNER FEED. I am scanning both analog and P25 talkgroups.

The issue is with the ability to SEARCH for new Trunked systems by CONTROL CHANNEL ONLY. If you weren't using that feature before (and it sounds like you weren't from the mistaking it for something else) then it should be no big deal to you until they update and fix it in the next version.

Firmware Update Update

I was about to go crazy with the performance after upgrading to Firmware v3. So many thanks to Upman for the new tweak.

Signal Strength disappears?

I am fairly new at scanning and my 396T. I upgraded to V3 and now notice when I am scanning, the strength meter for the antenna seems to flash, like it is losing the signal. It does this even tho I am staying on the same tower, not moving, and have all of the channels on one bank...so it isn't changing banks and losing the signal. I have entered only one freq., thinking that maybe it was alternating between the control and the alternate, but that did not help.

I use ARC396 to program and have not had any problems before.

The channels that it is doing this on is Indiana SAFE-T network which is a Motorola Type II SmartZone Omnilink; Analog and APCO-25 Common Air Interface.

I have set it up with my local antenna and in one bank placed the dispatch channels for Franklin city PD, FD, Sheriff and county fire. It seems to have dropped the city fire, I have not heard any traffic even when I know they have gone on a run.

Not sure if this is an upgrade issue or if something I have done.

Any help would be wonderful.

Thanks

Joey

It has always done that. You just weren't paying attention. :)

Can someone explain exactly what control channel search mode was and how to use it?
I see that it ISNT in the new firmware.

I guess this would be useful to quickly find trunking systems in an area you are unfamiliar with?
can someone give the settings and modes to use this when it gets added back in?

Great news on the close call DND, I always hated to have the 1 second interrupt when i was
scanning and close call when make it hiccup about every 3-4 secs while it monitored the close
call function.

Also.. can someone explain (via the scanner) how to setup MANUAL 8 mode.
I can goto settings and there are 3 choices,, auto, manual, and default.
I also can goto auto and hit function when im scanning a p24 talkgroup.
and press down twice to scroll and choose 1-8 etc.. in auto mode..
and the screen then says MAN and i can choose a #.. is that the way to do it?
I chose mode 3 in the p25 adjust, do i need to worry about wait times? or other levels?
or just leave those along...
also , what about agc analog and digital modes off/on setting? best to leave off?

Menu
Search For
Edit Custom
Select Custom 1-10
Edit Search Limits--lower & upper
Set Delay Time
Set Modulation
Set Step
Set C-Ch Only

You can use this now. It works for a P25 TRS, but it will not allow sound for an 800Mhz Motorola TRS. It also works for LTR. The problem now is with the 800Mhz TRS just showing the TGIDs and not allowing sound for the talk groups.

Thanks.. I never thought about doing that..
most of the systems I listen to are P25 systems anyway..
so, I will give it a try.
IS 850-870 a good range for the limits to search ctrl ch only?
when it stops on one, do you just HOLD on it, and the talkgroups start coming up?
(and audio, with p25 systems?)
