Hello
Maxtena M 1590HCT-LP-SM
in your opinion, would this antenna be useful for Inmarsat and Iridium reception? ( with the sawbird from Nooelec ) I'm currently using the self-made helix from thebaldgeek, a top antenna!
with the best regards Gerhard
This antenna would be poor for Inmarsat and okish for Iridium.
Inmarsat as you know is a geo bird, so you need a good bit of forward or directional gain which you have with the 7 turn helix.
Iridium are LEO and so you don't need very much gain, just good broad wide, 360deg around, overall smooth gain.
Those two use cases can not co-exist in the one antenna.
When it comes to Iridium, that part of the L-Band is super busy with lot of GPS type signals and a good Iridium antenna will filter those out. This antenna does not appear to have much in the way of filtering, it seems to want to catch all those signals and let the user try and sort it out.
The best Iridium antenna (after testing over a dozen) is still the
HC610 No need for an LNA as the filtered one in this antenna is very very good.
