Just learning my TRX-1 and new to Whistler scanners (out of hobby for 15 years also).

I must say I love the record capability. While contemplating what/when I want to record, it occurred to me that there may be times when some really good traffic is picked up and I want to record it. Is there a way to hit a button and immediately begin recording on the frequency or channel on which your scanner is currently locked onto, that you do not already have set to record.

Obviously there is no button for that on the scanner, but could one be remapped or repurposed to do so?

What I do is once a channel comes up that I want to record, press the MENU button, UP Arrow once and hit the Enter/Play button to set the channel to record. Done.

To get back quicker to monitoring the Channel or TG you wanted to record, DOWN Arrow twice, hit Enter/Play button and then as soon as it starts scanning again, hit the LEFT arrow to go to the last active channel and press Enter/Play to start monitoring again.

It might sound convoluted at first but is quite easy and quick once you do it a couple of times. Other than that, what I do is make sure every time I add new channels or TGs is to set them to Record right away. In the software is quite easy to mass-select all the channels and click on the REC option. Is not a big deal to record everything, all the time, even the factory SD card can hold over 50 hours of audio I think. I periodically do a mass delete to clear the card as another option.

Hope this helps.

No button that I know of. But, if you apply the record function of the scanner to specific frequencies, it will record whenever there is activity. You can then download via the EZScan software to your PC and listen.

As Larry said, no there isn't an on demand record option. When I program, I set everything to record for various reasons - mostly, that my radios are going all the time. Then, if I want to go back and hear something from overnight or last week, I pull my recordings.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I was thinking of not recording everything to save space. But, with 50 hours for the 4GB card (and now I have a 32GB card) worrying about saving space is worrying about nothing important. Record all it is...

I have one radio sitting in my den recording continuously. Last time I looked, it had over 200,000 recordings on the card - and it is still going.... Lemme check and see here it is now...

EDIT: 254,805 ... and climbing...

Just set it all to record by default. You can deal with the files later.

But like the Uniden models .. no.

The after recording part is WAY WAY better on the Whistler scanners though.

I too have all of my frequencies and talkgroups set to record. I wish there was a global function to turn it on like there is for search record (which some report is stuck on). Just shift select all of the entries in the Conventional Frequencies tab and select record. Then do the same for all the talkgroup in each trunked system.

When you export it from your scanner, it will organize the files into folders by frequency/talkgroup. There is also an ability to sort (but not filter) in EZ Scan.

The important thing is to pay attention to the top right of the screen periodically (every day or so). Once the scanner thinks the memory card is too full to continue recording, it will stop recording additional calls and a solid circle with a white "F" appears. I learned this the hard way. There's no warning. No way to check the space available from the scanner. When it stops, it stops. It doesn't care what might be going on at the time.
