Utah's largest hospital system is changing its name.

Intermountain Health, formerly known as Intermountain Healthcare, is dropping the "care" from its name as part of a larger rebranding effort that better matches its overall mission, hospital administrators announced Tuesday.

"The name change and updated logo are just a small part of an overall commitment to an increased emphasis on whole-health focused initiatives, and to be a partner in health, while staying true to Intermountain Health’s rich foundation of providing extraordinary care for the communities it serves," an Intermountain Health representative said in an email.

The Utah-based hospital network operates 33 hospitals and nearly 400 clinics across seven states, with 3,900 employed physicians and advanced care providers. It runs the major hospitals in both St. George and Cedar City, as well as clinics in smaller communities, and runs an insurance provider plan that covers more than 1 million people.

Intermountain recently merged with SCL Health, a Colorado-based health network that closed last year. The move pushed Intermountain into additional western states, including Colorado, Montana and Kansas. The network reported a $2.7 billion income for the first six months of 2022.

The name change goes into effect immediately, although it will take time to change out signage and other places where the former name has become common. The full change could take several years to phase in.

Just that it is a corporation that has a bunch of hospitals that some people monitor. The name change does not affect the frequencies, but at some point it might be useful information if you do FCC record searches. Agree that it is a fairly thin connection to scanning interests.
