I have the internal GPS in my SDS-100
I did a firmware update a few weeks back and had major issues with it, it made EDACS ProVoice reception unusable.
So I went back to the previous firmware. It corrected the ProVoice issue but now the internal GPS is not working.
It used to boot up with a different screen that showed the GPS mod. Now it just boots with the stock screen.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Does anyone know how to get the GPS working again?
I tried contacting the gentleman (Jon) that did the mod but he has not responded.

Thanks,
Ed

What version firmware/sub firmware are you using? Had a few updates recently you might want to try. As of a couple days ago: 1.23.05/1.03.05

1.21.00
1.02.01
I am reluctant to update it based on the issues I had before.

Right now I just want to get the GPS working again

You can always dial back if you update, but since you mention a reception issue, firmware updates will probably help based on what others have reported.

As far as the internal GPS goes and since it's not a Uniden modification, no suggestions there since Wienke dropped out of sight.

I am not having any receptions since reverting to this firmware so my only real concern is the GPS.

I was referring to this part of the message. I'd update the firmware and see if anything changes as far as GPS goes. Sometimes updates have unintended improvements too.

As I said, I am reluctant to do so if it is just going to cause reception issues again. Changing it back was a hassle!
I was really hoping to hear from someone who has dealt with similar internal GPS issues.
But I do appreciate your response.

Well that's where you need to start. The GPS and your scanner firmware have nothing to do with each other whatsoever. Go into the settings and make sure it's not off and start at 4800 and go upwards from there testing each time until it does.

Either 4800 or 9600. Try them all
Those are the most typical but just looking at mine having never used a GPS on it before was already set to 4800. So if his defaulted the same way it's probably 9600 or 19200. Modern modules could do 115200 too so really it's a guessing game unless the modder left instructions somewhere for just this reason.

What month is it?

You beat me to it....
Jon's modification just internally wired a GPS to the exact same circuits an external GPS would hook up to.

Should have nothing to do with firmware...

My SDS-100 has Jon's GPS mod and firmware 1.23.01. Jon's GPS screen is displayed on startup and everything seems to be working just fine.

So here is what I have learned:
With the baud rate set to 4800 or 9600 GPS is indicated on the screen. Any other setting and no GPS indication.
I am pretty sure it was set to 4800 when I was on the road over the weekend and it didnt work. I will give 9600 a shot.
Not sure about the startup screen but it is not really a big deal, as long as I can get the GPS to function properly.

Also, like an idiot I decided to take a chance that the lastest firmware corrected the bug I experienced before.
Nope.
ProVoice is still not useable.
Back to the old.
