I did independently verify, while talking to a member of the Southern Inyo Fire Protection District in Tecopa, that they are on this new MRA system for dispatch, but that they cannot get "toned out" on it so they either have to have the radio always on, or be at home where they can be called if there is a response for their units.

Thats why a lot of agencies keep up their analog dispatch frequency, so they can still tone out pagers or trigger equipment.

For Shoshone this does not surprise me. They used to be toned out on the Sheriff's frequency, specifically the 154.7250 SO repeater on Rogers Peak west of Furnace Creek. Furnace Creek Fire was paged on 154.4300 and I'm not sure who was doing the dispatching. I don't know if the SO in Independence was hooked up by phone. You can visit Death Valley a lot and not figure out their comms as other than the NPS, the CHP and Inyo SO there isn't a lot of radio traffic.

As an aside, the Bishop Amateur Radio Club still has no mention of the new MRA system on their repeater page under "Local Scanner Information": Bishop Amateur Radio Club. I've messaged the club a couple of times to no avail and the last time I checked into the local 2-m nightly net (last year), I also mentioned it and the other members were unaware of the new system.

The frequencies they have on that page are all outdated and wrong. I've thought of letting them know and writing a better list of them, but it always slips down to a low priority. I don't think club members are big into scanners.

I agree. Lots of outdated/inaccurate info.

I don't know about the club's inner workings, but I have the perception / feeling the club is slowly aging out and dying. I do enjoy checking into the evening net when I'm in the area.

This thread just recently came to our attention. There is certainly a lot of speculation, and a number of derogatory comments. There as an interesting thing though, with all the people talking about us, nobody thought to talk to us. While some customer information is obviously confidential, there is a lot of information regarding the system operation, coverage and sites on our website Home. The coverage maps are a little behind because we have just added a few sites, but it will give you an idea. If you don't find what you are looking for there, ask. We may even be able to come up and talk with your group, the operation of the network is actually quite interesting to those interested in radio.

Correct, except there's an MRA system in Utah that's not restricted.

Also, with NEXEDGE being much harder if not impossible to program rogue radios on, I don't see why the MRA NEXEDGE system should be restricted, but that's just me.

Back to the original topic, it's interesting that Inyo County is moving to a system they don't have direct control over.

It wasn't about the Nexedge system. Back at that time there was an individual selling airtime on LTR systems that he didn't own. Publishing the trunking info made that easier for him. Yes, the Nexedge system can defend itself better.

Notice to anyone on band edge channels of GMRS in MRA territory, monitor and report interference to FCC.

I suppose you could, but the first thing the FCC would do would be to notify us, eventually. The faster route to solve a problem would be to tell us directly in which case we investigate and fix the problem. It is also very unlikely that you will see a problem since our equipment is very narrow bandwidth (6.25k) and highly filtered. It would be highly unlikely you would see any emissions outside the FCC assigned channel. Our goal to be good neighbors.
