works good for me, just set up correctly
I have had my spectra on NMO on top of my truck for year now and love it.
there are a few things I did to avoid problems others have had.
When setting the elevation of the center pin, use a multi meter set to continuity, one lead on the antenna, one lead set to the center pin of the NMO mount. carefully set depth until the meter reads good contact. once center pin is set, lock it in good
trim top section to fit your needs and then attach tightly with Alan screw. lock down all set screws tight.
get a tube of epoxy and put a dab on each part of the antenna that can come apart. this is especially important on the lock nut for the center pin depth. all the epoxy is on the outside of the antenna body. be sure to not get any epoxy on the NMO connection threads. once the epoxy dries, I removed the spectra antenna, gave it a light sanding and then spray painted the whole outside of the antenna flat black.
I have no problems with it except when it gets scrapped along the ceiling of parking structures and scratches off the paint. recently I bought some plastic-cote product to put on a thick coat of scratch resistant material.
I only use mine for reception so heating the elements is not a concern. with the plastic coating the angles are less severe and the antenna is less noticeable with the other 8 antennas that are there for GPS, Satellite radio, laird phantom 3g & 4g, Laird phantom 450 to 490 MHz, Laird 1/4 wave 150mhz, Laird 1/4 wave 45Mhz, stock radio and alarm system antenna. also 2 more GPS antenna inside dash for laptop and for Uniden scanner, plus under dash cellular transceiver for vehicle tracking and remote commands.
set up correctly this antenna will give you years of great service
