I'm wanting to put my BCT15 in my F-150 but I can't find a discrete location to put it, so I think I'm just going to mount it on my dash board. My question is, if i have a big gwady ass scanner sitting on my dash board, could I get a ticket or pulled over for it?

Thanks

Alex

Depends on what u are using it for. I know that if it looks like ur up to no good some officers might question what ur doing with it

Amature, WX, etc.. and obviously police, but its not like I'm going to be using it to commit crimes, or steal copper piping out of buildings (tee hee), its just a hobbie.

AML ..

In the wiki under 'General Scanning' there is a link to a website that lists all the states and their law re: scanners in automobiles.

Welcome to the group here at rr.com! :) What year is your F-150?

Hey thanks! Its a 96 with a 4.9L straight six, its pretty weak, but hell of a dependable engine. Oh and one more question, what kind of antenna would be suitable for a car, I'd like one that can recieve UHF and VHF, sorta like a rubber duck only for cars.

Sweet. I have 92 4x4, stick, with the same engine, 4.9L/300 six. And your right .. heck of an engine!

I know you are thinking rubber duck style, but there are all types of antennas to choose from. If your not opposed to drilling some holes, an NMO antenna mounted that way is ideal. Second best would be a lip NMO mount on the bed of your truck.

Do not scrimp on coax, gotta have good coax for a clean signal.

Yeah mines stick too, I wish I had 4x4 that'd be pretty nice.

And thanks for the tip, I already have a CB antenna on mine so an extra hole on the otherside can't hurt. My main problem now is mounting it, I'd like for it to be under the dash to protect it from the blazing Oklahoma sun and UV rays and what not, and to fend off theives; I've already had a stereo jacked once. But I think I'm just going to resort to the dash. I'll post some pics here when its done. Thanks again!

My Father has a '91 F150 XL he bought new with the 4.9L & standard transmission and it's been a great truck for him. even gets decent gas milage for a pickup.

To answer your question, the only time it's illegal to have a scanner in your posession in the state of Oklahoma is when your using it for an illegal purpose or in commision of a crime. (it's basically an add on charge) Title 21 O.S. § 1214

I have been "hassled" about having a scanner in the vehicle on a traffic stop before. The officer was just asking why I had a scanner in the car and I said "I just enjoy listening to Police and Fire communications as a hobby, and it helps me avoid traffic accident and backups in Tulsa." He was happy with that answer, and didn't say anything else about it, except when he asked me to turn it down to run my DL. :D

Actually Phil, I bought my truck from the dude that runs/ran the Skiatook Marina on the west side of town. The shop sits kinda off the road a bit to the south ...

I got almost 200k on the truck. Haven't had to do a *thing* to the engine. :)

A mounting option you can consider: The BCT15 is DIN mountable, so if you have the DIN sleeve you can mount it right in your dash. In place of or next to your stereo. I don't know how your truck is designed, but in my Mustang i have space for two DIN size items, so i can have a stereo and scanner in the dash. Just my thoughts, hope it helps. .

Screw some plywood to a couple of L-brackets, mount the radio bracket on the opposite side from the L's, and then bolt the L's to the under side of the seat frame. There's a nice cross-brace a couple of inches back under the front of the seat.

This puts the radio vertical between the driver and passenger, and below (behind) the gearshift. Tuck the power cord under the shifter console to keep it from getting yanked on.

Just make sure the gearshift doesn't hit the top of the radio if you pull the seat up and then shift to second.

Yeah I'd like to do that but there is only two areas that have a DIN size: my stereo and my AC/heating controls: niether of which I'd really like to give up
