• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is there such an anamial ???

2 questions for you all and if I am in the wrong area please let me know and I will relocate this text.
I am living in Maryland and travel to the surrounding states. I am looking for a scanner that will receive all the currently active trunking systems in WVA, VA, DE, PA and or course MD. Is there one scanner that will accomplish this feat if so which one?

Question 2 Is there a PC card or PC add on scanner that will accomplish this and are they worth the money or do they suffer from PC EMI?

Thanks much

First, welcome to RadioReference. I hope we'll be able to help you.

Secondly, you didn't say if you want mobile or handheld, but to receive "all" of the trunked systems, you'll need a digital capable scanner, such as the Uniden 396T/996T or Radio Shack Pro-96/Pro-2096. The 996T just came out a few weeks ago, and is the nicest scanner out there to date. As someone who travels a lot, you might be interested in this scanner, as you can hook a GPS unit to it and it can automatically listen to systems as you travel from one area to another.

Keep in mind that there are trunking systems out there that no scanner can receive or trunk (ProVoice, OpenSky, etc), but these are in the minority.

There are PC-based receivers, but they won't do trunking like you want to do.

Let us know what else you need...

Thanks

OK on the PC based units, that what I though the answer would be.
I will look into the ones you mentioned. I under stand that some trunked system can not be recovered but if I can get the vast majority I will be happy. I am looking for a base unit. hand helds are too small for my fat fingers and i will just lay it down some place and forget it.
I also am a tinkerer that is I like to do mods and improvements and base stations seem to allow more of that type of activities. Thanks for the info again
