I have a BCD996T. I just did all the Firmware updates.

I have the ARC Butell and RR membership.

I heard from some local people in town that the freq's have around here have gone encrypted. I'm starting to wonder because my scanner is getting very quiet lately.

Just today a 3 car accident happened and I saw 2 cops pull out of the station with lights and talking on the radio. I heard nothing!!!!

So was wondering if anybody else heard anything???

Does anybody have BAYANET freq's?????

Most or all of the sites across Michigan have rebanded down 15 mhz. Do you have 853.35 and 853.475 for control channels for the Mt. Pleasant site? In the database nothing in Isabella County is shown as encrypted.

Their license for the main Police frequency WPDZ292 is approved for DMR. Are they now using DMR on all frequencies?

OK, I don't live in your area. I was just going by the database for the MPSCS. I see you have conventional frequencies programmed in your scanner. Under the talkgroups for the MPSCS in the database it shows these for Isabella County with the frequencies shown earlier in this thread:

DEC HEX Mode Alpha Tag Description Tag
3081 c09 D 37DRUG Countywide Narcotics Enforcement Common Law Tac
3280 cd0 D 37P911 Central 9-1-1 Police - Dispatch Law Dispatch
3545 dd9 D 37HOSP EMS-to-Hospital Hospital
3560 de8 D 37MCA Medical Control Authority Hospital
3573 df5 D 37EMS EMS - Dispatch EMS Dispatch
3832 ef8 D 37TRIBE Tribal Police Law Dispatch

The MPSCS is a P25 digital system that your scanner is capable of receiving. They may or may not use these as MarcP has info that they are using Mototrbo, which is not receiveable by your scanner.

Good luck,
Jim

Bayanet is talkgroup 2818. Be advised they are at most times encrypted and on your 996T as mine is as well you'll hear about a .1 second blip of encrypted sound and the scanner will continue to scan from there. They do at times will have one side of the conversation be in the clear, but the other side will be encrypted. Most times they are encrypted.

I am directly familiar with Isabella county as I'm in Bay County and can get Isabella off my outside antenna and routinely tune it in.
I have recently gone through my scanner setup and had to delete a bunch.

They aren't as stated 'encrpted', but are using a using a system no scanner can decode.
If it wasnt for having the PL code programmed in for those frequencies you would be hearing the annoying mototrbo sound.
As an example, If you know how to, remove the PL tones in your radio from those you dont seem to get now and you'll hear the following.
MOTOTRBO Digital Sound Sample - YouTube
at that point you will need to use the lockout button as no scanner made can decode it.

With that said, it can be done using dsd software.
Wiki - http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Digital_Speech_Decoder_(software_package)

Forum for it - Digital Voice Decoding Software - The RadioReference.com Forums

Even then if you do succeed with that, they still 'could' be encrpted and then you'll be out of luck.

I have looked over Isabella not long ago as well on the database and unfortunately for scanner listeners out that way,
in the neighborhood of 1/2 the radios in the county and city are using Mototrbo, aka DMR - Digital Mode Radio.
I.e. Mt. Pleasant city fire, township fire frequencies, CMU facilities, the casino, ITC buses.

The WPDZ292 154.875 is currently still not using mototrbo thankfully as of now.

The database is based upon users who send in submissions so that the database listings can be updated to better reflect out of date, new frequencies, etc. If you go to the Isabella page, click on the 'Submit' tab in the near upper right any info you can help out on, which in turn helps you, helps all others looking for the same info too!:p

Isabella County, Michigan (MI) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Far as the digital side on the talkgroup listings, actually none of those listed above I have picked up personally. I may not be close enough to pick up a tower (aka site neighbor) that carries those if they did get used.
IMO in all these years they should have been heard at some point never the less. To me those are valid talkgroups, but just not in use or are rarely used at this point.
I have seen at times talkgroups listed, but nothing heard for several years then it starts being used. I.e. Midland county talkgroup 1257 patch for MSP to be able to talk to Midland 911 VHF setup was listed for several years and became active only about a year ago.
One that is very talkative is the MMR ambulance 13062 talkgroup that handles Isabella and Gratiot

Thanks Ron...I was hoping someone in the receiveable area would chime in. I haven't driven through the area in a few years so I was just going by the database to try to help him out. Was hoping he hadn't rebanded his scanner for a quick fix but I guess that wasn't the case.

Happy scanning,
Jim

From what I gather so far, I have a $600 paper weight. Yes I still have the original box with the original price tag still on it from 2006 (lol)

Maybe it just the area I'm in now, when I was in Macomb County area about 2 yrs ago it seemed to be ok.

I did the updates because the scanner was always cutting out, that problem is now fixed. But in turn must of caused another problem.

These new scanners are confusing to me, so the replies I'm getting from you guys are confusing also. That's my fault for not keeping up on the technology talk.

Unless I'm missing something in the last few replies, my scanner hobby is on the way to Craiglist.

Ya, I'm starting to see the area is not that great. Not like Detroit area. I will check out that DSD software.

I just figured that being in downtown Mt. Pleasant, I could hear a lot of traffic from

1) Isabella Jail
2) Isabella Sherrif
3) Mt Pleasant PD
4) CMU Police
5) Tribal police
6) BAYANET

All within 30 mile radius. Off to go and check out the DSD

Well, I checked it out. Too technical for me. I downloaded it, and the Lame file, but just cant get it work.

Thanks for your help though. I will just listen to the few channels I have. Maybe upgrade later.

That's a weird move for Isabella considering that most of the surrounding counties are on the MPSCS (Gratiot, Clare and Montcalm) or have plans on moving to the MPSCS (Midland).

Yes. It weird. I used to pick up a lot. Now I get Isabella LEIN or dispatch every now n then.
I cant even pick up MSP.

I don't want to beat this thread to death, but it really sucks to be around 6 or 7 police departments, Casino, and CMU, and all I get is dead airways.

I respect the drug task force for being private, but general dispatch ??

Does RR have all the current Freq's??

I would hate to get rid of my hobby, or see scanner sales drop like CB radios.

Would be nice to put in a scanner absolutely! Listen through a PC thats it unfortunately.

Edit - That last one 155.490/158.490 is for the Public works not the City police, but the city police are shown as going morotrbo at some point nevertheless.

Got en email today,

New talkgroups 13147,13148,& 13176 heard today.
13147 mentioned as 37CMU1, CMU Police heard after long radio testing.
13148 popped up several times, with Isabella Co. radio ID's doing testing.
13176- Mt. Pleasant City unit called LEIN.
Also, Mt. Pleasant City Police activity on 3280-37P911
Just thought you might be interested in this.

it was off the Mt. Pleasant tower,
3 (3) 023 (17) Mount Pleasant Isabella 851.16250 851.97500 852.47500 852.97500 853.35000a 853.47500c 853.72500

Assuming true there might be a light at the end of the tunnel for those in Isabella county that have been using Mototrbo radios!
