Been monitoring the last couple of days, and have noticed Chicago D Talkgroup (9008) is no longer used for south expressway incidents. Chicago C Talkgroup (9007), which was primary for the Middle Sector (Interstates 55 & 290), is now South. This Talkgroup (9007) now covers Interstates 55, 57,94,394. C-239 just came up 10-41 and was given the assignment of S-12, so it appears new patrol assignment numbers are active. I'm wondering if the Middle Sector was split into North & South? Update time...

Just heard the 1430 rolling roll call on Chicago B-North (TG 9006). Patrol assignments were given and N-9 N-10 N-11 Eisenhower cars was mentioned. So it appears my initial impression is correct, and this isn't just for the Labor Day weekend or construction. C-239 was just given a 10-50 PI on Interstate 55 @ Pulaski, so it appears the Stevenson must be S-10 S-11 S-12...

The ISP blog mentions that the Middle Sector has been eliminated and patrols divvied up between North and South due to reduced manpower. This jives with your observations here.

They also mention rumors of District Consolidation (again). Besides the post closing scare of a few months ago this has been proposed several times over the last few decades I have been listening to the ISP. It is more feasible these days with StarCom21 as they don't have to rework a lot of the communications infrastructure like they would have in the VHF days. As it is though I will believe it when it is a done deal...

I read that after I posted. It's like the old Dists. 3 and 4 . I was suprised District-Chicago was initially targeted to be disbanded. After this consolidation and elimination of 5 master Sergeants and 5 Trooper positions, i'd suspect it's off the radar to close. I could see smaller Districts consolidating in the future. I agree, it is easier with Starcom to make these kind of changes.

I remember reading somewhere that ISP District Chicago would be eliminated and the CPD would have jurisdiction over the expressways. I thought there were other districts that would get the ax, but the state moved some money around and those districts would remain in tact.

In my opinion the real municipality that is gonna pull the load is IDOT. Those guys will be in charge of clearing accidents and other issues. From what I always remember hearing, IDOT was usually the first to respond to accidents.

District-Chicago was supposed to be eliminated in July, but somehow the money was found and none of the districts were cut. With the lack of CPD manpower, the expressways would be worse than they are now. Back in the early 80's, the State wanted to put lottery machines at O'Hare, and in return, agreed to take over expressway duties. District 3 took over the north, District 4 took over the South. That's when they were using the VHF Low frequencies (42.88 and 42.66) to cover the city. Then EDACS came along and now Starcom. IDOT does respond, but due to their staffing at times, not always the first on the scene. Plus they can't make traffic stops etc. In my opinion, I think the District-Chicago consolidation makes sense. Middle Sector was always the less busy, and many times the Telecommunicators were covering two channels anyway. From a listener's point of view, I like the way it's set up. I changed a few Talkgroups around, re-labeled them and the monitoring continues.

I think the funding issue will be "fixed" by the changes coming up on the 15th of this month whereby ticket prices are going up substantially _and_ (more troubling) ISP will get some large percentage of the ticket revenues, 28% IIRC.

Things are gonna stink if ISP or D15 all the sudden becomes some ticket-writing mill, which is exactly my worry.

I was thinking the same exact thing the other day because I heard on 780AM that the ISP are stepping up patrol on texting and cellphone use in general.

LOL...I enjoy how posts go way off topic, but felt the need to respond to this. I'm hoping they enforce cell phone, texting and any other distracted drivers laws out on our highways. District 15 (Tollways), needs to slow down these fu**in morons out there, as 80 + is the norm out there. I'm no slouch when i'm driving, but if you two, or anyone else out there are blowing my doors off as I'm going 70-75, then tickets are well deserved. I can't believe you two are bit**ing in a thread that mentioned changes in Talkgroup status in District-Chicago. I think the thread has run it's course...

Chicago-H

Made the change in the database, as it was mislabeled. Talkgroup 9059 is being referred to as H. 9012 is not correct. They've had a detail on Chicago H (9059) the last few nights...and is active now.
