Does anybody know if there is a live ISPERN feed being broadcast over the internet? Also, when the ISPERN dispatcher is done giving out a broadcast, he/she ends it with something like: "...ispern clear KSP 242" (?) smthg like that... Anybody know what that means?

ISPERN is the coolest thing since sliced bread. Seriously.

Anyways, I can tell you're near Chicago. You're hearing ISP Chicago whose callsign is KSB242. Elgin is KSB233.

There's no live stream on the net, however an agency in DuPage county runs a link of ISPERN on 470.4375 It's way cool.

For those reading and wondering what we are talking about:

ISPERN stands for Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network. It operates on 155.4750, the nationwide Police Mutual Aid channel. While neighboring states also use this to some extent, IL has the most organized and frequent use of it in the Midwest.

By rule, ISPERN can be used for pursuits, certain flash messages and inter-agency coordination. Base stations are restricted to the various State Police posts and facilities, the Cook and Lake County sheriff offices and Chicago PD. Some trunked systems have full or port time links to ISPERN as well.

DuComm has established a full time simulcast of ISPERN on 470.4375, as has already been mentioned. Transmitting from a tall tower (I think it uses the Elmhurst site, but I am not sure...) it receives ISPERN from several satellite receivers and rebroadcasts it on the UHF freq. At this time there is no talk back from the UHF to ISPERN.

As also been mentioned here, there is no one I know of with a webcast of ISPERN, but it would be a great idea if they rebroadcast the UHF link, as it receives far and wide. I often hear Springfield and Rock Island when conditions are good via the DuComm system, just the other day I listened to some Iowa units near Des Moines.

DuComm also has a similar link to the 154.2650 IFERN (Interagency Fire Emergency Radio Network) on 470.3625. This allows one to monitor large incidents they would not otherwise be able to hear.

DuComm is one of the premier central dispatch agencies in the nation, and has been very generous to the scanner community over the years, with tours to local scanner clubs and publishing freqs on the Internet etc. While these links are intended for the professional use of the member agencies of DuComm, the side benefit to scanner listeners has been well appreciated.

Down in Monee (33 miles south of Chicago) I am relatively close to Chicago Heights PD on 470.4375. Whenever CHPD isn't transmitting, the DuPage ISPERN link comes through loud and clear down here. I wish there was something similar in lower Will County, because the UHF repeater picks up both the ISPERN base stations, and more importantly the *mobiles*.

If you don't want to hear Chicago Heights PD where you are, program a CTCSS tone of 146.2 Hz to lock in only the ISPERN repeater. Chicago Hts operates with a CTCSS of 203.5 Hz.

Personal experience with ISPERN. In February, 1999, my family was en route from Paducah, Kentucky to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was about 5:40 AM and still dark. We were about 15 miles north of the I-24 / I-57 junction, northbound on I-57 when we encountered an older Dodge pickup truck southbound in the northbound lanes. We immediately contacted the closest State Police 911 operator on the cellphone and reported the situation. I happened to have a monitor in that vehicle and tuned to 42.50 and ISPERN on 155.475. A County Deputy was the first one to acquire the violating vehicle... he chased it at 95 MPH for over 25 miles down I-57 before additional units from an adjacent county and State Police did a pit on the truck and finally stopped it. ISPERN was really lit up that morning and we heard that the driver was so DUI that he couldn't even walk. Our vehicle came within 3 feet of being struck head on, but we took the shoulder and avoided a near tragedy. Thank goodness for the superior handling of our Ford Crown Victoria LX.

re:ispern

I do feed my scanner online for free from Southern Illinois there is Chicago (West) and Also a Sangamon County Feed always looking for other full time feeds.

www.incidentbroadcast.com is the site, really easy to use we use Team Speak unlike Windows Media and all that crap to mess with, just an audio cable to the sound card and signing up to feed full time if not overlapping an already covered area then you should be approved.

Ah the memories! Back in the day, we used to monitor ISPERN directly on 155.475 and also on Schaumburg's PDs original trunk system. You could hear quite a ways out with that.

These days (now in Colorado), we just listen to any of a multitude of networks established on either any of the metro EDACS systems or the State's APCO25 digital system to hear distant alerts / chases / what have you.

I do miss ISPERN though. 155.475 is referred to as NLEEC here and is relegated to prisoner transports.

The letters and numbers you hear at the end of each ISPERN brodcast is the districts station ID I was informed by my uncle who is a D1 seargant that the state is very tough on identifications if you hear KSA774 that would be Sterling.
