BCD436HP/BCD536HP: Issues with analog transmissions

Hello! I just recently got a Uniden 436HP to monitor my county’s P25 and Analog public safety transmissions. However, p25 works good. But the analog transmissions show they are receiving but no sound. And when it does sound, it picks up mid transmission. And when I do pick it up, it stops every couple seconds and then picks back up, and repeat. Analog is most times a hit or miss. I’m monitoring Yoakum County SO in Texas. Is this a simulcast issue? How can I tell if they use simulcast? Any help would be much appreciated!

Welcome to scanning!
Suggest you check and be sure that "close call" and any priority is turned off. Try the local weather channel and be sure that that transmission / audio is clear and not interrupted.

Welcome to the forums! Check if squelch is set to 2. Sounds like squelch may be too high. Also, turn off weather priority. The 155.79 frequency is both analog and digital. It should be entered twice, once for analog and another time for digital. Make sure you have the PL tone for the analog frequency and the NAC for the P25 digital frequency. Also, Mode should be NFM, not FM as shown in the database. The FCC has mandated that frequency must be narrowband.

I don't think It's a simulcast issue if the system is analog. Simulcast issues are noticeable on P25 systems due to the received bytes getting mixed together from multiple sites.

the analog transmissions show they are receiving but no sound.
I've heard of this several years ago but haven't seen any recent reports on this. I would first check that the scanner firmware is up to date. In Sentinel, go to the menu Update - Update Firmware.

I have an Analog/APCO-25 C A I system that is hit or miss with transmissions. The audio can go from pretty clear, to scratchy and totally unintelligible. Certain spots in town result in so signal at all. Its a a Motorola Type II SmartZone with a simulcast site.

Firmware is up to date. I just programmed it to conventional system. Programmed one channel for analog only FM with PL and programmed another channel digital only with P25 NAC. Also I want to note. It picks up analog pretty much every time when I have it sitting next to my baofeng UV-5R. Squelch is at 2

As it is using the same frequency for both digital and analog then the max modulated data signal can force an enough detect of the 85.4 PL decoder to make it stop scan but not open up for audio. It might help if the PL frequency are next after the P25 frequency in the scan cycle but it will probably skip the P25 channel when it's signalling idle mode and anyhow go to the PL channel.
