Since I began scanning the new P25 system here in Las Vegas, I've noticed that the audio quality on transmissions is all over the place. NHP field units usually sound alright, however NHP dispatch more often than not comes in extremely loud and overblown, almost sounding like the speakers are clipping. Nevada DOT is probably the worst, almost all traffic is so overblown or overdriven I often cannot even make out what's being said.

Anyone else having the same results? Any suggestions?

So far:
I've resorted to adding a volume offset to the main channels I listen to, but that just makes it alright for some transmissions, but hard to hear the quiet stuff.
I've got almost full signal strength on simulcast, and using the built in attenuator has no effect.
I've tried all the onboard filters with zero changes.
Plugged into a high quality speaker system the results are slightly more tolerable to listen to, however the problem persists.
When I go mobile with the SDS100 all over the city the results are exactly the same.
I mostly scan SNACC P25 and that system has always sounded fantastic out of the box.

You could try lowering volume offsets on overdriven channels, may or may not improve anything. Ultimately this may be high mic gain settings on the dispatcher or units' ends & there's not much a scanner listener can do to mitigate it but as long as it sounds fine to the subscriber units, that's all that really matters to the system techs

I have had the same issues. A lot of transmissions are distorted and sound terrible. I wonder if it’s somehow converting the EDACS systems transmissions to P25 and causing the distortion. I believe this could be it because the units with the P25 radios sound perfectly fine.

That's exactly my thoughts. Holding out for when EDACS goes silent to see if the audio improves.

The NHP Dispatch sounds hot because their audio levels are hot. If you listen to other members their Dispatch levels are consistient with the field units.
