I wasn't prompted for any username or password I just went straight into it simply by connecting to the wifi network. The hotspot shows as unsecured in wifi networks.

So if I'm on any device such as a phone, laptop or tablet and view the list of available networks my hotspot is named WPSD in the list of wifi networks and I can just get into it without any login.

Tried to set password and still not getting prompted for password. Now the hot spot has stopped working as well.

That would be unusual. The WPSD Project's instructions state:

For what it's worth, "www.pi-star.com" isn't the correct website for the hotspot software. You want Home - pistar.uk

To me, it sounds like you're missing a step or steps in the initial setup, or jumping around a bit.

So if I'm on any device such as a phone, laptop or tablet and view the list of available networks my hotspot is named WPSD in the list of wifi networks and I can just get into it without any login.
If you are accessing the hotspot directly, then trying to connect to a talkgroup/refleactor/etc., then you haven't finished your wifi setup.

Are you using the WiFi network fron WPSD/Pi-Star ? Have you configured the hotspot to use your wifi network?

Sound's like you only are using the wifi that came with WPSD/Pi-Star for setup.

Its showing as an unsecured network so anybody can access my hotspot and change settings.

I think I've changed the wrong one. I may have entered in a password on the psk AUTO AP SSID

The netork WPSD-setup is unsecured. It is to only be used as a way to access the Pi and set it up. Hence the name WPSD-Setup.
See section 5.2 of the WPSD user manual.
Oh ok.. my concern with it being open like that is that if a neighbor or somebody near by gets bored, finds my unsecured hotspot and decides to muck about on my dashboard changing things then they can. So there is no way to protect it in anyway?

Excellent. Its not showing in the wifi now so I think I'm all good now.

Thank you everybody for your help. I appreciate it even when these things can get frustrating but I'm sure we have all been there. :)(y)
